President Biden’s announcement of a run for a second term—one filled with appeals to core Democrat constituencies and the same tiresome demagoguery flung against his opponents— got me to thinking back to how Biden opened his January 20, 2021 Inaugural Address: “This is America’s day. This is democracy’s day.”
There would have been a chance for this to be true if his actions bore out this promise: “I will be a President for all Americans. I promise I will fight as hard for those who did not support me as those who did.”
