All her life she had been told Chairman Mao was a god.

"How could a god die?" she asked.

It took 20 years over the course of her journey in America to rid herself of all the communist propaganda.

And yet, in the U.S. at the moment, it's the Right, not the Left, which is passing laws to dictate what cannot be and/or what must be taught in schools, including at the college level (seeking to deny funding from colleges and universities which deviate from the "American Exceptionalist" narrative.)

And there's a vast difference between democratic socialism and communism, esp. as practiced by Mao. Increasingly, it's far more than that between mainstream, moderate conservatism and fascism.

Sounds like you are a product of the early stages of this indoctrination if you are claiming it is the Right that are the bad guys here.

And, your viewpoint is rather naive if you really believe that there is a huge difference between "democratic socialism" and the end goal of communism.

Being politically conservative in any form is not fascism.

Fascism is really just another version of the totalitarianism that gets manifest by communism.

Both are about controlling the masses of people by the elite for the gain of the elite.

Communism (just like Facism), regardless of whether it is practiced by Mao, Stalin, or any of the other tyrants who have adopted it as their MO since Lenin and Marx, has always ended up in enormous bloodshed within the country that allows it to fester and take power.

And in each instance, the "gateway" movement has been something akin to what you call "democratic socialism."
