Why hasn’t Vice President Kamala Harris visited Port-au-Prince?

She insisted that you need to examine the “root causes” in order to handle the border crisis. Well, in the past few months, Haiti’s president was assassinated and the island nation was hit by an earthquake and a hurricane. Those are some root causes.

But Harris didn’t visit Haiti, and President Joe Biden’s administration barely reacted to the unrest — sending USAID to offer some nominal assistance.

The Biden administration did nothing to make Haiti a more stable place to live, and through words and action sent the message that the US border is wide open.

After all, US Customs and Border Protection says it has encountered 1,002,722 unique individuals crossing the border — illegally or asking for asylum — just in the first eight months of this year. Tens or hundreds of thousands more surely enter without being caught.

The Haitians saw that Guatemalans and Hondurans and Ecuadorians were being waved right in — why not them?
