Walmart CEO Doug McMillon announced in a memo to company employees on September 3 that the retail giant will discontinue sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition, as well as sales of handgun ammunition, and will end handgun sales entirely in Alaska. The announcement was made as a response to two deadly shootings at Walmart stores over the summer, one in Southhaven, Mississippi, on July 30, in which a former Walmart employee killed two people, and another in El Paso, Texas, on August 3, in which a gunman shot and killed 22 people.
As tragic as these events were, it does not follow that discontinuing the sales of the types of ammunition he mentioned will do anything to prevent similar tragedies in the future. A crazed killer has an unlimited choice of weapons available to him and it is impossible to remove all of them from availability.
McMillon stated in his memo: Our remaining assortment will be even more focused on the needs of hunting and sport shooting enthusiasts. It will include long barrel deer rifles and shotguns, much of the ammunition they require, as well as hunting and sporting accessories and apparel.
This statement indicates that McMillon obviously has little understanding of the reason why Americans have long cherished the right to keep and bear arms.
As former judge Andrew Napolitano wrote in an article in the Washington Times in 2013:
The historical reality of the Second Amendments protection of the right to keep and bear arms is not that it protects the right to shoot deer. It protects the right to shoot tyrants, and it protects the right to shoot at them effectively, with the same instruments they would use upon us.
As to how the constitutionalist should view Walmarts decision to end the sales of certain types of ammunition there are two separate matters to consider.
The first is, the Second Amendment, long cherished by constitutionalists as the ultimate guarantor of our right to keep and bear arms, prohibits government from infringing upon that right. Since Walmart is a publicly traded family-owned business, controlled by members of the Walton family, it is not a government entity and is not bound by constitutional limitations placed on government.
Constitutionalists have long supported the right of private businesses to operate in a manner they see fit, free from government interference including the right to determine what services to offer and to whom they decide to offer them.
The second point, therefore, is that Walmart certainly has the right to refuse to sell any product it decides to, including ammunition. But, conversely, consumers offended by this position also have the right not to support that position though their patronage.
The NRA issued a statement in response to Walmarts decision: The strongest defense of freedom has always been our free market economy. It is shameful to see Walmart to succumb to the pressure of the anti-gun elites. Lines at Walmart will soon be replaced by lines at other retailers who are more supportive of Americas fundamental freedoms.
Poster Comment:
Walmart has just shit its pants!
This does absolutely nothing to stop insane, brainless idiots from killing people. It does, however, prove that Walmart's CEO is bat-shit crazy to make enemies of a large percentage of customers.
The NRA stands for freedom from criminals and more government power grabs. It also is comprised by many who have shopped at Walmart. I personally prefer to buy American made products when able, and fortunately for me, Walmart doesn't sell much of anything made in USA.
Adios to the gigantic swallower of small businesses.

Is it that Walmart has just shit its pants" - Or is it that we are seeing a knee jerk reaction by you in that you are only making an immediate unthinking emotional statement about an issue to which you are overly sensitive?
It is of course the latter since a new poll shows the retail giant could benefit from the changes and even while the NRA called Walmart's new stance on guns 'shameful' and predicted it would cause shoppers to flee.
From consumer research firm CivicScience information, the strong indication is that the retail giant is going to be just fine, despite threats of a backlash and you saying: Adios to the gigantic swallower of small businesses.
Besides, what is all your fuss about trying to make this a BFD when there still are numerous other outlets people can buy through. There are many avenues to explore both online and other local businesses. J H. C its not like Walmart is the only ones who sell those.
You say this action proves
While the survey shows that
As far as former judge Andrew Napolitano writing in an article in the Washington Times on Thursday, January 10, 2013 It was an Analysis/Opinion where he was stating that The Second Amendment is the guarantee of freedom. The article has absolutely no application to what Walmart did because Walmart is in no way either taking away or restricting your Second Amendment right.
In conclusion, I am here to inform you that with recent history and a new poll as a strong indication the NRA's dire prediction probably will not pan out. And you saying that Walmart has just shit its pants never happened!
Are you now perfectly clear on all of this?
Believing that we are, I say:
Adios,

Polls have been proven likely to be worthless; but then you knew that.
Gee. They even named a gun after you and you're demonstrably anti-NRA and 2nd Amendment.

He'll never admit to that.
Gun Owners of America is much more pro 2nd Amendment that the NRA, which has lobbied for all kinds of gun control legislation.

And you are wrong about polls. A new study a study and not a poll shows polling has not been proven likely to be worthless, as you say, and definitely is not undergoing a collapse despite what you may believe and some might suggest.
You go on to say No, I demonstrably did no such thing. What I did was to simply demonstrably present facts to you and I did that task with a greatly admirable presentation.I never in anyway informed you that I was anti anything. By you jumping to such an irrational conclusion, It is easy for me to see that you and Deckard went to the same school when you both mastered the course showing how to arrive at false assumptions.
You really should stop doing that because over time, the process can be disastrous to your creative ability since it will limit how you look realistically at situations and problems. Furthermore, making false assumptions can definitely limit the options you may have at your disposal as you attempt to generate any ideas.
Nope, I took the name from my weapon of choice in the AC-130H Gunship and the B- 58 Hustler and proudly use it as my screen name. In posting with it, I still refresh fond memories of wonderfully exciting times gone by.Perhaps if you had given more attention to selecting your screen name, you could have chosen IbDumbshit for it would be far more befitting to cateforizing your intelligence used to respond to my posts.

Of course not. I will never admit to a false statement.
Keeping on point A person can be criminally charged whether that person affirmatively admits to making a false statement or deliberately omits information that is material.
You continue to be amusing, Deckard
BTW I see you missed me so much that you had to come over and drop in on this thread.

Did the shooter buy his ammunition from Walmart? Since the shooter drove to Walmart, will they stop selling auto parts?

What I have learned from your post, and from Deckards comment, when you stated
is the fact that one of you can make such a charge and the other one support it against a person without bothering to find out that he does concealed carry and is a member of the NRA will forever continue to amaze me. This amazement is amplified by you two conspicuously and prominently displaying here your inability to process the rational and factual information supplied to you.
I claim the label conservative and right-winger for various and sundry reasons I will not take time to address here. Wearing these labels proudly, I find the thing that disgusts me most when involved in the political atmosphere is you extreme fanatical right-wingers} inability to process factual information.
Some might not agree with my personal view of conservatism. Conservatism might mean something quite different to them. There is really a kaleidoscope of political understandings that we need to acknowledge more clearly.
But when and if I must select a side as whether I must come down on the side of either old-fashioned individualism, tradition and decentralization or the side of innovation, centralization, and identity politics, I will forever choose the former. And in doing so, I as a conservative will act intelligently and not like the myopic goofball misfits you two have demonstrated yourselves to be.
Thank you for providing me with such a great platform from which I could admonish your radicalized thought process.
I wish you well in your continued search for disenchantment where you are always seeking to find unhappiness.
It is with that in mind that I will now bid you, Good Day, Sir
Salute,

I would suspect many local gun shops, pawn shops, and online retailers of ammunition will be glad, as this will drive more business to them.
Today, Rural King, a popular large chain retailer, announced Rural King says it will 'stand in support of Americans and the Second Amendment. https://www.wthitv.com/content/news/...559374651.html.
I am reminded that Dicks Sporting Goods & Gillette have management that thought they were brilliant. I think they found out they were mistaken.
Time will tell if WalMart made a good business decision.
I will bet that all the other retailers, both local & on line will be happy.

"Federal Election Commission filings show that Alice Walton and Sam Rawlings Walton, respectively Sam Walton's daughter and grandson, each gave $353,400 to the Hillary Victory Fund in late 2015 and early 2016." Washington Examiner.
They now give contributions to various PACs to get around financial limitations on direct contributions campaigns.
As for their Republican donation, Waltons donated about $400,000 to Restore Our Future, the Super PAC associated with Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney.
For myself, I despise Walmart. I demonstrated computer carts for a Chicago firm in Bentonville, Ar. What I saw was eye opening. It still disgusts me to this day. Workers are required to be at work on their own time, 15 minutes before the official opening for what I will call a Pep rally. Rah-Rah Walmart. They had to stay after their shift, again on their own time, to clean up their work area. They made minimum wage.
As a Conervative, I've watched this left move. Fact is, they are the closest department store in my area. Having put others out of business, I shop there only when I have to. I maybe go there 3 times per year and I hate every minute of it.
I do know Conservative friends feel the same way about Walmart and many online Conservative communities boycott them for assorted reasons. This move is certain to turn them off.
Wise move? It will depend on how Democratic 2A supporters are affected.

Gun sales are a small part of WalMart's overall sales so they won't be harmed financially by this move.
This really isn't a second amendment issue - as a private business, WalMart is free to sell guns or not sell guns.
