Does the latest shingles vaccine work? Advice on shingles.

Brother just got the shingles (high stress life caught up to him). It's limited to a small area but it smarts a lot.
Once it clears up (weeks? months?), he's thinking of getting the latest vaccine (me too). Has anyone taken it?
Any advice on how he can get through this?

I got a shingles shot some years ago. But I was told recently that it wasn't that effective and I needed to get the new one -- which comes in two parts. One now and another in 60 days.
Insurance should cover it, but availability is iffy. You can get it at any pharmacy.
My shot hurt like a bitch and I developed mild and brief flu-like symptoms. But, better than getting shingles. My wife got the shot with no problems.
