In an interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo, Giuliani likened the Trump-Cohen situation to George Washington and Benedict Arnold and Caesar and Brutus, adding the president was "completely shocked" by his former attorney's decision to leak tapes to the press.

"The man is a liar," Giuliani said of Cohen. "A proven liar. There's no way you're going to bring down the president of the United States on the testimony uncorroborated of a proven liar. I guarantee you this guy is a proven liar."

"We all make mistakes about people that turn out to be disloyal to us," he said. "You know, Benedict Arnold was disloyal to George Washington, the greatest president, right? Rudy Giuliani told CNN that two days before the Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer to get “dirt” on Hillary Clinton there was a planning meeting to prepare that meeting. It included Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, Rick Gates and others.

That meeting would have been on June 7th, the same day Donald Trump teased an upcoming speech — which ultimately never happened — where he would reveal new information on the Clintons.

President Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani says "the scoundrel" Michael Cohen alleges there was a meeting among top Trump campaign officials days ahead of an infamous Trump Tower meeting in June 2016 with Russians teasing dirt on Hillary Clinton.

Giuliani said Monday the previously unreported meeting never happened, and that then-candidate Trump didn't attend it. Giuliani said during an unscheduled call to Fox News that he wanted to discuss the allegation first to control the public narrative.

"Why did I mention it? Because first of all, I thought it was going to come out. Second, my experience is that when you have something like this floating around, it comes out. I don't want to come out and be unreported when it originally comes out," Giuliani said.
