| Could 2020 be a rerun of 2016? Michael Goodwin sees the portents for a rematch between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, thanks to her renewed interest in running her super-PAC. Shes sending out more missives attacking Trump, arranging payments to allied groups, and has even helped launch a campaign against whomever Trump nominates for the Supreme Court run by longtime aide Brian Fallon. See Also: The first post-Janus lawsuit against the SEIU has arrived Hillary is up to something, Goodwin wrote yesterday, and he thinks it might just be a comeback, in large part because of a lack of competition:
Fox News is certainly excited by the prospect:
Well, why not? Its not like Democrats have a compelling leader emerging with the start of the presidential primary process a year or so away. Not only is the current average age of the leadership of the Democratic Party approaching the octogenarian level, its most celebrated potential presidential candidates are too Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders as Goodwin also points out. Elizabeth Warren is a relative youngster at 69. Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Cory Booker are getting crowded out by the Baby Boomers who wont go away. The notion of Baby Boomers hanging onto their moment by their fingernails brings us right back to Hillary Clinton, of course. It seems absurd to think that shed run again, because it is absurd. If Trump fails in his first term, then practically any Democrat would beat him, and Democrats have options with far less baggage than Hillary. If Trump succeeds, hell beat any of them, especially Hillary, whos terrible on the stump anyway and would appear to be even more self-centered with a third tilt at the White House. Does she even have an argument that doesnt center on her own ambition yet, despite having run twice for the job? Besides, Bills book-tour comments on Monica Lewinsky and #MeToo gave a very good hint at whats to come in a Democratic primary, and especially in a general election. Goodwins observations about Hillarys activity can be explained in a different way: she wants to be a kingmaker (or queenmaker, if you will). She may be using her influence to shape the battlefield and to create IOUs, as Goodwin surmises, but to put her in position to help pick the next nominee more than to be it. Hillary must realize by now that shes not a good enough candidate to win an election and that she has to work behind the scenes to succeed. I mean, by now she has to realize that, right? Right? Well, if not, it wont just be Fox News that gets excited. Itll be everyone on the Right, and especially Trump, who can run in 2020 on the same informal platform that helped him win in 2016: Keep the Clintons away from power. Itll work in 2020, too. |
Are you ready for...Hillary 2020?

There's no nostalgia for Hillary Clinton in the Dem party.

Hillary's pumped up on wonder drugs, and raring to go!
More of a mob takeover than an election.

They may be done with her but Felonia Milhouse von Pantsuit and hubby Bill may not be done with them. The Xlinton hasn't gone away and they aren't giving up that easily.
She still has a lot of donors. Some will stick with her, even if hiding behind anonymous PACs. Even if she doesn't run, she could help cockblock Bernie from getting the nomination, to try to keep ClintonWorld relevant and powerful. Or to help keep Fauxcahontas from getting the nomination; Hitlery's biggest backers are on Wall Street and they hate Warren.
The next best thing to being king is to be the kingmaker.

I'm inclined to agree, but am also of the opinion that her winning the 2016 nomination was largely arranged behind the scenes. We already know she and the Dem leadership stacked the deck against Sanders, but there were also very few serious contenders for the Dem nomination in the first place, as though competition was discouraged, even while the R party had some 18 contenders at one point.
If that power structure is still in place, then...
But yes, if it does happen it will be against popular grass roots Dem support. She has all of the liability she had in 2016 and more, given the corruption now being exposed in the FBI related to her email server.
Hillary Clinton is consumed by a lust for power. That much is clear as day.

It'll be hilarious.
Have they finished decontaminating the Vanbulance after the last run - those Chipotle burrito farts and old-woman gases were peeling the ceiling mouse-fur from what I heard.

I have doubts. She is on video in multiple scenes where she can't navigate normal stairs at 45 degrees. She can still handle wide low-slope stairs without someone holding her up by both arms to navigate without falling.
