Avenatti alleged that Cohen received the following payments after the 2016 election: approximately half-a-million dollars from a company linked to Viktor Vekselberg, a Russian oligarch with close ties to the Kremlin; nearly $400,000 from pharmaceutical giant Novartis; $150,000 from Korea Aerospace Industries and $200,000 from telecommunications conglomerate AT&T.
The payments were made to the same bank account that Cohen had created in 2016 to execute the now infamous hush payment to Daniels, Avenatti said.
The stakes are sky-high for Cohen, who is currently under a federal criminal investigation by the US attorney's office in Manhattan and had his home, hotel room and office raided last month.

Two bits on the under!
Cohen would be stupid to not cooperate with Mueller, considering that his records and papers were seized and are now being used by Muellers investigation.
He can sue later, after Muellers investigation is declared a witch hunt..

Not that it's anyone's business, but Trump paid his attorney $35,000 per month as a retainer -- way before the porn star demanded hush money. That money was to be used at the attorney's discretion in service to his client.
The monthly retainer continues to be paid.

Anything and everything as deemed necessary by his attorney. The public has n no "right to know" about private matters between Trump and his attorney, or how m much Trump is paying his attorney, or what the money is used for.
Had Trump u used campaign funds (which he didn't), that would be different.

Considering Mr. Cohen is under investigation for Bank and Wire fraud and Campaign finance violations....and considering that a federal judge signed a search warrant for his records....
It might be reasonable to conclude that the money given to Cohen might not have been used for proper purposes....

That sort of tabloid crap is all they got?
Bet taken. Mueller is imploding. Anything Mueller can do can be undone by Trump.
The Concord Management case is scheduled to proceed this afternoon over prosecution objections slapped down by the judge. Put up or shut up time is arriving. Discovery should be interesting.

She was appointed by Trump in December after 10 years on the federal sentencing commission. Yale Law.
This is the second time she's giving Mueller a major headache in a single week.
A ready demonstration of why Trump appointing so many judges bears out in real-life results. He had ~120 vacancies to fill the day he was sworn in and he's filling ongoing retirements as well. McConnell just confirmed another half-dozen and has another half-dozen up for a vote this week. McConnell is talking like he'll fill every vacancy by the end of the Senate current term.

The money given to Cohen from whom? He got approximately half-a-million dollars from a company linked to Viktor Vekselberg, nearly $400,000 from Novartis, $150,000 from Korea Aerospace Industries and $200,000 from AT&T.
But you're suggesting that, of all that money given to him, Cohen improperly used only the money he got from Trump?

Or one can say, "Essential Consultants LLC, received a total of $4.4 million in payments from a range of sources with an interest in legal work."
You got squat. You got money flowing into Essential Consultants LLC, but no proof that any of their money went to Trump to buy his influence.

No.
I'm suggesting that he was laundering all the cash and paying off/buying off individuals other than just Stormy....
As the story develops, it is becoming clear that Mr. Cohen was selling access to the WH
- "Novartis paid Trump lawyer Michael Cohen $1.2 million for advice on Obamacare work he was unable to do..."
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/09/novartis-paid-trumps-lawyer-michael-cohen-more- than-1-million-for-work-he-was-unable-to-do-company-says.html
I saw one article that put the $ figure "received" by Cohen at $4 - $5 million in the past year and a half..
From various sources and all funneled through the shell company he set up for the purpose of paying off Stormy...
A rational person would look at this situation and conclude that there is some greasy shit going on, and Mr. Cohen is up to his eyes in all of it.

I think you can understand that this is what the investigation is all about.
Are you really trying to defend a sleazy wannabe thug lawyer who refers to himself as a "fixer"?
Do you really believe that he was performing any service of value for the "retainers" he was collecting?
Bribes and pay-offs is what this smells like.......

Laundering? First I've heard of it.
As for paying off/buying off individuals who may be an embarrassment to his clients, that was part of his job. Nothing illegal about that.

You bet. The prosecutor develops some conspiracy theory about Trump with zero evidence, then goes about trying to prove that theory with search warrants and subpoenas.
They call that a "fishing expedition".

I believe the other headache was given in Virginia by Judge Thomas Selby Ellis III in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Judge Ellis, an African-American Reagan appointee, questioned whether Mueller's investigation had exceeded its lawful scope and wants production of an unredacted copy of the Rosenstein "Scope Letter" for court review.

That also doesn't look good on the resume. And it'll provoke some Trumptweets about #FakeProsecutions being reported on by #FakeNews CNN.
I've read that Mueller may put his entire investigation on hold until after the 2018 midterms. It makes me wonder if Mueller will finish investigating before Trump leaves office.

They screwed up the indictments. They never intended to go to trial. They did not prepare for a real trial. They expected the Russian defendants to not show up. This was for the press only. Some incompetent nitwit named a few corporate entities as defendants, as well as the real people associated with the corporate entities. The real people ain't coming. As a legal fiction, the corporate entities are distinctly separate legal persons. They do not have to show up in the flesh, but may do so by their attorney. The attorneys for a corporate entity showed up, pleaded not guilty, and demanded a speedy trial. It's an aw shit moment.
Last week, they argued for a month delay because they were not sure the corporation had been properly served. This while the corporation was present in the court via its attorneys arguing to proceed. The judge's response amounted to "Come on, man."

I thought I detected a note of sarcasm from the judge when shooting them down on this obvious ploy to delay/distract. Almost like they're desperate to keep their legal fictions alive for a little longer, even at the risk of professional embarrassment at the case they had brought.
I think this is the Phrase Of The Year for all the legal types out there, at least the conservative ones.
