Our watchdog group filed a complaint with the Department of Justice and the Office of Government Ethics on Thursday, asking officials to investigate whether Giuliani’s disclosures show that Trump violated federal ethics laws or laws against making false statements. The Ethics in Government Act requires filers of public financial disclosure forms, including the president, to disclose any liabilities worth more than $10,000. Giuliani repeatedly acknowledged on Wednesday and Thursday that Trump owed Cohen $250,000, accounting for the $130,000 payment to Daniels and associated taxes and fees. But Trump’s public financial disclosure report last summer didn’t list any debts to Cohen. A knowing failure to report such a debt constitutes a federal crime, and failure to properly report that liability can result in penalties up to $50,000, as well as imprisonment. Moreover, lying on a financial disclosure report can be the basis for federal false statements charges under 18 USC 1001.

...thanks to Giuliani’s catastrophic performance, yet another fresh start for Trump’s legal team has been squandered. The president and his attorneys are running empty on credibility. Replenishing it becomes impossible at some point after repeated miscues. If prosecutors, judges and even the American people no longer believe what Trump and his lawyers say is true, they will assume the worst. Contrasted with the methodical and straightforward approach of the Department of Justice, this is beginning to feel like a war that the president is not going to win.

Trump pays a $35,000 monthly retainer to his attorney to be used for whatever. That money comes from him, not his campaign.

According to Rudy-Patootie and SS45, the "retainer" was used to repay the hush money to Cohen....

and

The Feds already have the records supporting this explanation from Cohen's files....

Actually, nothing....which is why Mr. Mueller referred this matter to the Manhattan Federal Court.

Exactly. A fishing expedition to find something, anything on Trump to take him down. This is and has been unconstitutional once Clinton's and DNC fake document was illegally used to get warrants.

I hope Trump crushes the FBI and DOJ heads for their unconstitutional acts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure it was. That and many other things, all of them (supposedly) private. At $35,000 per month, Trump is paying his attorney $420,000 per year, every year. The porn star's piece was $130,000. Gosh, maybe we need to audit his attorney, huh?

This was Trump's money given as a retainer to his attorney, to be used at his attorney's discretion.

Mr. Mueller has nothing to do with the investigation into Mr. Cohen's "activities"

No. We'll find out if and when the investigators find something. Could be years.

This is a witch hunt which meanders all over the place like a Roomba, looking for a crime to sweep up. Except the Roomba has more intelligence.

What attorney-client privilege?

Are you actually copying and pasting from SS45's tweets??

According to the crime-fraud exception to the privilege, a client's communication to their attorney isn't privileged if made with the intention of committing or covering up a crime or fraud.

It was a payment for services rendered.

You are the dense one here. If you can not see the illegality of what the special counsel is then you have rocks for brains.

Once Comey/Mueller/Rosenstein found that the so called document was paid for by Clintons and not one fact could be verified they should have ended the investigation at that moment. Then jumped into the Clinton Obama scandal of Email server and the treasonous pay to play scam. But I see you would rather read about Stormy the porn ho than to worry about the illegal acts by the Regressives.

Trump was not my first choice but he has done more in one year than both bush's did in 12. That's fighting MSM and his own party. I'm thinking Trump deserves a place on Mount Rushmore!!

According to the crime-fraud exception to the privilege, a client's communication to their attorney isn't privileged if made with the intention of committing or covering up a crime or fraud.

How would anyone know there was "intention of committing or covering up a crime or fraud" without breaching the attorney-client privilege?

It's a fishing expedition -- first look at the privileged communication, then determine if a crime has been committed.

Let's search your house for illegal guns, porn, drugs, whatever. Then if we find something, we'll get a warrant. Sound good?

#27: Jameson    To: misterwhite (#26)

It's a fishing expedition

Please.....

Release your grip on the talking points memo....

A federal judge signed the search warrants for this, knowing that there was a line that must not be crossed. The FBI was well aware of this line as well.

Any privileged correspondence will be excluded.

Try also to understand, the federal prosecutor already knows what he's looking for, it's not fishing, it's verification.

Any privileged correspondence will be excluded.

Unless it's leaked.

"Try also to understand, the federal prosecutor already knows what he's looking for"

Yes, he's looking for evidence of a crime, any crime, by combing through privileged communication between Trump and his lawyer.

The only possible crime here would be if campaign funds were used to pay off the porn star. Does the federal prosecutor have proof of that? Or is he trying to find it? I call that a fishing expedition.

It is extremely unlikely it happened.

Trump is fighting his own party, the media, and the leftists now.

Title: We filed a complaint about Trump’s ethics

But does anyone give a shite (other than the #FakeNews libmedia and their NeverTrumper allies)? Nope.

FreeBeacon:

The Quinnipiac University poll, released on Tuesday, found that a majority of voters, 58 percent, believe the affair actually did happen, compared to 14 percent who believe it did not happen...

But a whopping 73 percent of voters said they do not believe the affair is an "important issue." That includes a majority of Democrats (51 percent), independents (79 percent) and Republicans (90 percent).

Quinnipiac also asked about the $130,000 payment that Trump attorney Michael Cohen made to Daniels in 2016, which Daniels alleges was in exchange for her silence. A majority of voters, 59 percent, said they believe Trump knew about the payment, compared to 24 percent who said they believe Trump was not aware.

But once again, the poll found that voters tended not to care whether or not the president knew about the payment. Fifty-nine percent of voters said whether or not Trump knew about the payment is not an important issue.

"Yes he did it. No we don't care. A big yawn from voters on Stormy Daniels, President Trump, and the payoff," summarized Quinnipiac University poll assistant director Tim Malloy.

There are indications that libmedia has vastly overplayed its hand, making Trump more sympathetic. Or the public are more likely to give him the benefit of the doubt. This is the problem when the media declares a partisan war. People just discount everything they say. The same happened with Reagan and with Kennedy.

Sometimes the public prefers even a flawed prez to a cabal of libmedia and Congresscritters of various stripes.
