Report: Special Counsel Robert Mueller Focusing on Trump Obstruction, Not Collusion

pecial counsel Robert Mueller has focused on events since the election — not during the campaign — in his conversations with President Trump’s lawyers, Axios reported Monday.

“That suggests a focus on obstruction of justice while in office, rather than collusion with Russia during the campaign,” the report said.

The report said the top two topics that Mueller has expressed interest in so far are the firings of FBI director James Comey and national security adviser Michael Flynn.

President Trump fired Comey last May, under the recommendation of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. However, in an interview, Trump said the Russia investigation was also on his mind.

Comey told lawmakers that Trump had asked him to let former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn go — who was under FBI investigation — during a private conversation. The president has denied making any such request.

Comey later admitted he took notes after conversations with the president, and he gave them to at least one friend to pass to the media after he was no longer FBI director, for the purpose of prompting the appointment of a special counsel.

Mueller’s team has been negotiating with White House lawyers to work out the specifics of an interview with Trump within “the next few weeks,” according to Axios.

The “big question” is whether it will be in person, in writing, or a combination of the two.

Kenneth Starr, the special counsel whose investigation led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton, told Fox News recently that he did not see any evidence of obstruction of justice by Trump.

“I’ve seen nothing in … the firing of [former FBI Director] James Comey and all of the aftermath that suggest the president has obstructed justice,” he told Fox News on February 28.

The president tweeted repeatedly over the weekend about the special counsel investigation, reflecting his deep frustration over the matter.

If Axios’s report is true, it would mean the president was aware during his tweeting that Mueller’s interest is on obstruction of justice, rather than any alleged collusion.

The president attacked Comey — who is set to launch a book tour next month.

“Andrew McCabe FIRED, a great day for the hard working men and women of the FBI — A great day for Democracy. Sanctimonious James Comey was his boss and made McCabe look like a choirboy. He knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI!” he tweeted on Saturday.

Trump also reiterated that there was “no collusion.”

“As the House Intelligence Committee has concluded, there was no collusion between Russia and the Trump Campaign. As many are finding out, however, there was tremendous leaking, lying and corruption at the highest levels of the FBI, Justice & State. #DrainTheSwamp.”

He continued tweeting about the probe into Sunday: “The Mueller probe should never have been started in that there was no collusion and there was no crime. It was based on fraudulent activities and a Fake Dossier paid for by Crooked Hillary and the DNC, and improerly used in FISA COURT for surveillance of my campaign. WITCH HUNT!”

On Monday, the president continued: “A total WITCH HUNT with massive conflicts of interest!”

Despite his tweets, White House lawyer Ty Cobb said the president had no intention of firing Mueller.

“In response to media speculation and related questions being posed to the Administration, the White House yet again confirms that the President is not considering or discussing the firing of the Special Counsel, Robert Mueller,” he said in a statement.

True in a sense. EXCEPT there was something "there" in the case of Clintoon.

That is true of all men, and particularly all rich and powerful men, for "All have sinned" (St. Paul).

If they dig into Trump's business dealings long enough and hard enough, they will find tax accounting they will be able to label as fraudulent.

Likewise, if they characterize what Trump has done with regards to the Comey firing and the investigation, they can charge obstruction of justice. Impanel the right group of DC Democrat grand jurors and Trump will be indicted.

Then the Democrats, joined by Lady Lindsey and the rest of the Republican Establishment angry at Trump's ascendance, will impeach him. I doubt they will have the votes to remove him though.

Given that, Trump should just cut off the cancer and burn the stump. Fire Goldstein. Fire Mueller. Appoint special prosecutors to go after the Clintons and Obama and the DNC. Purge them before they purge you.

What will that mean for the mid-terms? The Democrats will probably win the mid-terms no matter what, and if they win the House, Trump will be impeached no matter what.

He should expect impeachment, but expect that the Dems will NOT win 67 votes in the Senate, which means he's not actually removable. And then he should destroy the Democrats through political prosecution, just like they are trying to destroy him.

Vic, what the Clintons did in the name of greed was far beyond mere "sin" during their time as Gov and Prez. Citing Paul in this case doesn't score you or the Clintons any points. The subject is justice. And righteous chastisement. The Clintons PLOTTED evil. Covered it up with multiple cases of murder. PROVEN.

It's not fair to conflate the "sins" of you, me, and Trump with...The Clintons.

Yes, Trump needs to fire a bunch of people a let the chip fall.

I also expect an eventual attempt at "Impeachment," only to create a social media circus and feeding frenzy as a desperate measure to stop him from winning in 2020.

You are off topic, pal; you should join your FRiends on Free Republic to ensure the FRenzy you are driving towards. Anytime a special investigation team is brought on board it to determine FACTS based on objective evidence. Often, even a witness testimony is considered irrelevant if it can not be collaborated by other testimony or OBJECTIVE EVIDENCE.

Thats not the purpose of the investigation. Its about taking out those that oppose the power structure of the government.

The Russian crap is crap. What the Russians did would not change even the closes local race let a lone a national race. Russian just wanted to disrupt whomever won.

The powers that be have illegally hurt one person Michael G. Flynn by lying to everyone and causing Mr Flynn to go bankrupt which made him give up even when the investigated said he did not lie.

He lied to the VP and to Trump about his own lack of disclosures about foreign entanglements. Trump fired his ass as a result. It had nothing to do with Mueller's investigation.

Actually the dnc hack investigator said they believed Flynn. So no he did not "lie" but they went a head and prosecuted him until he could not finacially defend himself. If the investigators and the judge(who all were DNC hacks) would have told Flynn's lawyer at the time he did not lie then the trial would have been over. But Muleface needed a conviction even if it was corrupted. The judge in the case was removed by a high judge and this wasn't the first time that judge was removed for playing politics. Did you ever see that part?

Trumped fired him because he was told that he lied. Trump did not trust him at that point. He left Flynn to the wolves thinking he lied but didn't.

Personally I hope Flynn sues the shit out of Comey, Mueller and the judge. You have to disclose everything and they did not which is a no no.

Its time for Congress step in and demand evidence or shut the investigation down ie witch hunt to find crap on Trump so they can remove him. If they fail to stop Trump he will dismantle the socialist pigs ie crony capitalist in charge. I guess you want socialist pigs running the government like Obama and hillary?

Why?

They only investigate those that rock the boat. Look at Clinton. She should be wearing orange. There was so much evidence against her that they could have convicted ten peons but nothing happen and it lasted about as long a fart. Trump did nothing and its lasted nearly a year with no end in sight and they have zero evidence of any wrong doing! Is this what you want? One sided investigation of those trying to do the right thing while corrupt people get the "we feel there was no intention to commit a crime, not guilty! Next!"

Or even better, indict and prosecute ALL the players in this charade. (WHY is Mueller avoiding this?? OH WAIT.)

Flynn was obviously railroaded and framed by ILLEGAL means. The PTB are trying to do the same of Donald Trump.

Mueller's Witch Hunt Part 2 can NOT be allowed to move further. DESPITE conspicuously timed support by Mitch McConnell and threats of "impeachment" by Lady Lindsey and Jeff Flake.

Anyone who disbelieves in the clear-cut case of corruption and collusion of the GOPe and RNC with Democrats in trying to launch their coup of America's duly elected President is painfully naive or stupid.

Shit or get off the pot.

As much as I don't like you, you do have a point. Trump is the President. Sessions is his servant. So is Rosenstein. So is Mueller (by and by). The President does not have to let these guys dither and destabilize his presidency.

Order Sessions to fire Rosenstein and Mueller. Sessions does it, or Trump fires Sessions and puts in there somebody who will do so. Then those guys are gone.

Do it now, before the mid-terms.

Now the GOP has two choices: back the President and ride out the storm, or attack him, and perhaps be swept away by it.

If the Democrats win the House, Trump will be impeached. So what. Impeached just means charged. Trump still has the power until he is REMOVED. That takes 67 votes in the Senate. They're not there.

So, Trump survives impeachment, the country is divided. Meanwhile, Trump's new Attorney General prosecutes Hillary, and Bill, and Comey, and Mueller, and Lady Lindsey, and puts out the truth about Obama.

The Left and the milquetoast Right go insane and do either one thing: mewl and puke and wet themselves and lose, or they riot and go into the streets and start a civil insurrection.

Then we have the right to shoot them, thereby changing the electoral balance of the United States for good, just like the Civil War did by physically eliminating so many pro-slavery Democrats.

WHICH "GOP" are you referring to?

The one which has conspired WITH the Dems to attack him OR the one that backs him? Unfortunately, the one that attacks him has hijacked the Republican Party and become mere puppets of their Global-First masters.

Donald Trump's election has exposed GOPe's open, transparent treachery and unholy alliance with the Dem-Comunist Party. But to what end?

Have you noticed that the RNC gets to choose ONLY their puppets and finance ONLY their puppets? Have you also noticed that they also sabotage conservatives, aka non-GOPe candidates? McConnell's treachorous GOPe has also even supported DEMOCRATS against REPUBLICANS (if they don't support the Globalist agenda of McConnell-McCain wing.)

Vic -- GOPe "Leadership" has NEVER been concerned about losing. Surely you know that. As to your scenarios and speculation, they all make perfect sense. Any or all of it may be the case. The ONLY mission of the GOPe (aided obviously by the Dem-Communist Party) is REMOVE ANY CHANCE that Trump and any pro-Trump candidates take over leadership positions and transform the Republican Party. They are the equivalent of an enemy engaging in a Scorched Earth policy. Trump can ONLY navigate our nation OUT of its pro-One World Government projection WITH Republican votes. That is why they are helping the Dems in obstructing Trump's agenda.

I can't argue with any of that.

The solution is for the conservatives to break off and form a Conservative Party, and not permit the GOPe politicians to enter it.

A Conservative Party that does not have the "Republican" name associated with it would bring in conservative Democrats who won't vote for a Republican because of history and the taint of that name to them, but who are disgusted with the Democrat Party also.

The GOPe would be left a dead rump, and the Conservative Party would grow to replace it. Conservatives would lose an election cycle or two due to the division of the Republican Party corpse, but as it stands conservatives have lost every election since 1932, when the ultimate outcomes of things are looked at, so really conservatives don't have much to lose in the long term by separating themselves from the Republican Party and the GOPe

BUT in that political vacuum would be the corpse not only of the GOP but of the United States of America itself.

You're also presuming supposed the tatters of what's left of Conservatives would survive the coming fascist-Left tsunami. We will never survive our solution before the Left/NWO has their way with us in the very near future. Any such 'Conservative Party' will have to remain a fantasy or "What could have been."

We are just now seeing the agenda and collective might and weight pressing down on America's (and the West) throat.

The NWO-Left alliance cuts through the Elites, UN and International Banksters, Industrialists, through the Public Schools, Colleges, the MSM, TV, Entertainment outlets like Hollywood and Sports. This unholy alliance of GOPe, Democrat Party, Antifa, BLM, Islam, etal is forged in broad daylight before our very eyes.

I'd rather invest energy and concentrate on our Eternal Kingdom. Frankly, the "Last Days" seems to be just around the corner. This World was never intended to be paradise on earth.

Well, when we get down to the brass tacks of what we should do, and what should be done, the coalition on the Right goes up in a puff of smoke. It is probably true that, like the Democrats, we cannot really articulate our objectives, because so many of our objectives are at cross-purposes to one another. So we, like the Dems, have to fake at a unity we don't really have. As long as ENOUGH of the constituencies on the right are reasonably happy and there's hope for most of the others, the coalition hangs together. Then the economy has to be doing ok for Independents to vote their pocketbooks and put the Right, or the Left, over the line.
