A boy wants to sleep. His bed is located 10 feet from a light switch. He sleeps in a bunk bed 8 feet over the floor. He turns off the light switch. He doesn't use any contraptions ( wires, poles, clapper, etc.). Yet, he gets in bed while the room is still lighted. How is this possible?

It's daytime. He turns off the light switch and sleeps during the day.

He uses an AR-15 to shoot out the light bulb.

Analyzing the question, it's curious that he's in a bunk bed. That detail would likely be significant as most beds are not bunk beds. Bed is 10 feet from the switch, bunk bed is 8 feet above the floor -- a difference of 2 feet.

So I would say the switch is located on the ceiling 2 feet above the bunk bed, easily within arms reach.

He uses an AR-15 to shoot out the light bulb.

Are you sure it wasn't a shot gun?

Perhaps that may be too subtle. I'm alluding to the report of some news station showing a video of what an AR-15 could do to a watermelon, except the shooter was using a shotgun instead.

I'm trying harder to understand why this warrants a thread.

If so, then why would it be important that the kid was in a bunk bed, or how high off the floor the bunk bed was?

A proper riddle answer should account for the clues presented in the riddle question.

I think misterwhite had the correct answer.

You asked us to solve a riddle and you don't have the answer?

What a dud of a thread.

That would be another riddle!

Here's a clue: the answer includes the words "dumbass" and "waste of time".

Simple. He's Chuck Norris.

The outlet asks him whether it should shut itself off.

He doesn't use the switch... he unscrews the bulb from the fixture, (that he can reach 8 feet up on the buck bed).

Who said I don't know the answer? Sometimes words can be used not so rigidly.

I think GI may have figured that bunk bed clue out.

misterwhite's answer is actually the correct one.

The riddle states that the switch is turned off, and the boy gets in bed while the room is still lighted. So if he turned off the switch, the room would be dark if it is dark outside when he gets in bed. This is true even if he can unscrew the bulb from his bed.

My 11 year old daughter stated he had a streetlight outside his window. I guess that could be interpreted as also correct.

Yes...

OR, a Full Moon was shining in through the window.

It's a stupid riddle. It isn't funny. It isn't even clever.

And you're a dumbass.

That's a pretty fair assessment.

I have one: he's a dumbass and doesn't know the answer to his own riddle. And that's as official as it's gonna get.
