With the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High shooting still looming large, its students in the Capitol to lobby for gun controls, the Florida House overwhelmingly passed a measure Wednesday its sponsor said aimed at bringing "light" to the schools.

The bill (HB 839) would require all public schools to post the state motto, "In God We Trust," in a "conspicuous place."

Sponsor Rep. Kim Daniels, a Jacksonville Democrat who runs her own ministry, said Florida needed the legislation, given the goings on in the state.

"He is not a Republican or a Democrat. He is not black or white," Daniels said. "He is the light, and our schools need light in them like never before."

She spoke directly of the school shooting, and said it's no secret that the state has "gun issues" that must be addressed.

"But the real thing that needs to be addressed are issues of the heart," Daniels said.

She mentioned video games as an example, saying children are being trained to become virtual assassins. Things might be getting so bad, Daniels suggested, that people will come to realize problems are much larger than politics.

"We cannot put God in a closet when the issues we face are bigger than us," she said, urging colleagues to back the bill.

The bill passed 97-10, with the result winning a standing ovation. The Senate has yet to take up a companion bill in any committees.

That bill is a plausible change.

Not if there is no companion bill in the FL Senate. And there isn't.

Sounds like a legislative vanity project.

Posting mottos won't stop some little psycho from shooting 17 schoolmates. Mottos inscribed on public buildings just aren't that effective.

So what is the Tooconservative solution to this madness in America? The impetus of the left wingers is that People don't care about Constitutional restraints anymore.

James 2 (DRA)

Trust in God is good, but the schoolmarm had better start packing a pistol!

Maybe we should also tell the FBI, the police, the school districts, and the child services to do their jobs.

All four of these agencies failed more than once to stop this little psycho. People were Seeing-Something-Saying-Something. And they got totally ignored by the authorities. Until we heard about 17 dead teenagers.

First thing, tell these government agencies to do their jobs.

In the last few years of the 0bama regime, there were almost 50,000 attempts to straw-purchase weapons for ineligible buyers. They prosecuted only 48 of these crimes.

There is a lot more we can do with the laws we already have on the books. But we have to enforce those laws and hold those agencies responsible and we may need to fire agency employees who fail us at their core job duties.

Oh sure, you can convince the bureaucrats at the government office water cooler interrupting an hour long discussion about their benefit package with your concerns

Oh sure.

If they spend an hour at a water cooler, fire them for that.

I guess you think if we just put up some dumbass slogans like "In God We Trust" on more buildings, that'll solve the problem. We already have that motto on all our money and it doesn't seem to help, does it? What, maybe we need to tattoo "In God We Trust" on these bratty kids and then they'll finally stop shooting each other.

About as dumb as thinking we have to take in all these illegals because some loony Socialist in the 1880s put a smarmy poem about "the wretched refuse of your teeming shore" on the pedastal of the Statue of Liberty. America promptly celebrated this by enacting extreme restrictions on immigration that lasted until Teddy Kennedy in the Sixties changed it.

You or me can't. They are under union contract doing the will of the People.

That's a start as over the past 30 years the ACLU has stripped the nation of any mention of God. It is important to note: that's been the breeding ground for these mass murders.

Think what you want. Ronald Reagan lead a form of illegal immigration by closing the door for illegal entry.

As long as liberal policymakers insist upon creating "gun-free" zones such as schools and other buildings these venues will continue to attract this kind of mayhem as the shooters know they won't be taken down by returning fire. In all of the online commentary regarding the most recent shooting, there hasn't been any mention of the role "gun-free" zones continue to play as an attractive and enabling force.

No, they're just people who need to be fired because they don't want to do their work.

Ronald Reagan lead [sic] a form of illegal immigration by closing the door for illegal entry.

That doesn't even make sense.
