Stephen K. Bannon, President Trump’s former chief strategist, was subpoenaed last week by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, to testify before a grand jury as part of the investigation into possible links between Mr. Trump’s associates and Russia, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

The move marked the first time Mr. Mueller is known to have used a grand jury subpoena to seek information from a member of Mr. Trump’s inner circle. The special counsel’s office has used subpoenas before to seek information on Mr. Trump’s associates and their possible ties to Russia or other foreign governments.

Mr. Bannon was quoted as suggesting that Donald Trump Jr.; the president’s son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner; and Paul Manafort, his campaign chairman at the time, were “treasonous” and “unpatriotic” for attending the meeting with Russians at Trump Tower. Mr. Bannon said that he believed there was “zero” chance that the younger Mr. Trump did not take them to meet his father, who has said he knew nothing about the meeting.

Payback time for "Sloppy Steve"???

It's not treasonous to report something that happened. It's perjury to report as having happened something that didn't.

I don't think that Bannon will commit perjury. So, I expect his testimony to be true. And I think it will somewhat damage Donald Trump - not because it has to, but because it will damage some of the other wing of Trump's organization, and he relies on both wings to fly.

With Bannon, Trump had a pretty indispensible character, but Bannon is a personality in his own right, and it is always difficult for big men to dance a tango. It required effort. Bannon was always ready to put in that effort, in exchange for achieving his goals. Trump is not nearly so doctrinaire on anything, and some of Bannon's goals will cost Trump a LOT in other quarters, so the tension was certain to grow.

Unfortunately for Trump, in the end it will turn out to have been better for him to have backed the Bannon horse and irritated the weaker people that Bannon's goals would have gored. Instead, Trump tried to keep the balance, but that required making an enemy out of Bannon.

Bannon would STILL reconcile with Trump IF Trump went hard over for Bannon's ideas, but once Bannon speaks to Mueller, Trump will either get through ok if Bannon lets him live by emphasizing and remembering some things, or Trump will be severely damaged if Bannon chooses to remember and EMPHASIZE certain other things.

Bannon has described himself as Cromwell in the court of the Tudors.

One of the stupidest things Trump ever did was put Mueller in charge of the investigation with no time limit. In a nearly a year and a half Mueller has come up with no solid evidence of anything. In the year 3000 he'll still be coming up with paranoid accusations of influence and "meddaling" with no evidence to support it except his dedication to his support of Hillary.

Mr. Bannon said that he believed there was “zero” chance that the younger Mr. Trump did not take them to meet his father, who has said he knew nothing about the meeting.

He's speculating on the odds. There's no direct knowledge of what happened in this statement.

Explain...

I will for the explanation. The Justice Department appointed Mueller not Trump.

The decision by the deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, came after a cascade of damaging developments for Mr. Trump in recent days, including his abrupt dismissal of the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, and the subsequent disclosure that Mr. Trump asked Mr. Comey to drop the investigation of his former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn.

Mr. Rosenstein had been under escalating pressure from Democrats, and even some Republicans, to appoint a special counsel after he wrote a memo that the White House initially cited as the rationale for Mr. Comey’s dismissal.

The Democraps had just lost the election. Ignore their pressure. Mr. Comey was an subversive Obama appointment. He was not guaranteed a lifetime appointment.

I want you to review your post#3. A K A Stone later corrected your comment; he didn't offer the detail that I performed as a followup based on "explain."

Trump was not directly involved in Mueller's appointment. So, it is a minor correction about your post.

I will leave this chat at that.

I read your sicko comment the other day. Your position is murder kids because they will be poor. If you don't want to kill them you say steal to force someone else to take responsibility.

You're fucked in the head. Literally and figuratively.

False.

My position is to show love and compassion to the least among us and care for them. This includes the unwanted and unintended.

I would rather our tax dollars be spent on improving lives than taking lives. In a capitalist society, everything costs money.

This is the only logical pro-life position.

Be honest - would you agree that taking care of the human needs of the mother and the child would be compassionate and the best possible outcome for an unwanted or unintended pregnancy?

Because this is the only truly pro-life position, your only argument against this approach is your own greed and selfishness.

Would you agree with my suggestion if it were free to you?

Yes that is the mothers job. Not to murder them or steal from someone else to support the kid that the woman chose to have in her womb. It is not my job to pay for the sluts burden.

If they cannot take care of child give it up for adoption. You're to immoral to understand that though. You are for allowing the murders to continue.

So - you don't actually care about the lives of:

or

b. the slut's "burden" (actually a baby)

Sad.

You also seem to believe that paying your fair share in taxes is somehow "stealing" from you.....right?

Yes, this is correct - look it up - GE Made 9 Billion in profit and actually received a tax refund.

So look at it this way - every dime you've ever paid in income tax, and every dime you'll ever pay was given to GE in 2016.

And the republicans just gave away even more to GE....
