I dont know. This doesnt sound like the Trump *I* know. Were about to enter an especially fun news cycle in which the White House screeches FAKE NEWS, HE NEVER SAID THAT while Trump fans screech HES TOTALLY RIGHT while rattling off their own personal lists of sh*thole countries. Alt-righters in particular might literally wank to this story given Trumps alleged contrast between African countries and a Nordic one. Personally, as a patriotic American, I think all other countries are sh*tholes.
Its not clear who was at the meeting but WaPo suggests Dick Durbin was there to discuss the terrible new immigration proposal. Did Trump really think he was going to say this in front of a Democrat without it being leaked immediately? Prepare to hear the word blankhole a lot on cable news over the next few days. The White House has already issued a statement, by the way and interestingly, it doesnt claim WaPos story is fake news. Theres no denial here:
That tells me theyre confident, no doubt correctly, that Trump voters will eat the WaPo story up. How it plays internationally with the many sh*thole countries America does business with and depends on for cooperation on counterterrorism is another matter. But thats easily finessed: Any diplomat who asks the State Department what Trump meant by this will be assured that of course he wasnt talking about your homeland. Except Haiti, I guess. Twitter pal Kilgore Trout makes a fair point:
Thats the essence of nationalism! My country has been turned into a sh*thole and will remain so until it elects me to start clearing out the foreigners. Make America Great Again is premised on the idea that America is a sh*thole. Or was as of January 19, 2017. This is a fair point too, sort of:
Liberals would gasp in horror that anyone would accuse them of thinking another country is a sh*thole (except Syria, maybe), but yes, of course its true that poor conditions abroad are a staple of open-borders arguments. In extreme cases like Syria its an argument for a generous refugee policy, but the sh*thole logic reaches beyond obvious humanitarian disasters. One of the defenses of letting child migrants in during the border surge a few years ago was that their home countries werent as safe as they should be thanks to drug cartels and street gangs. Its not that the left disagrees with the concept of sh*thole countries. They just think thats an argument for immigration to the United States from those places rather than against it. I sure hope Trump is preparing some sort of politic answer for the first time hes asked, Which countries are sh*tholes, Mr. President? Otherwise, Trump being Trump, hes just going to blurt out the brown ones and then weve got a whole new news cycle to deal with. Maybe hell do like he did with version three of his travel ban and stick some country in there that subverts the racial/religious narrative. He added Venezuela to the ban to undercut arguments that it was aimed at Muslims. If he wants to undercut arguments that the sh*tholes are all black and Latino, may I suggest including Russia? Heres Tapper furrowing his brow over Trumps comment. If nothing else good comes of this, at least Trump got Jake Tapper to curse on live television.
Update: An unlikely source flags a problem with Trumps logic:
Temporary Protected Status is a sort of temporary refugee designation due to dangerous conditions in a persons home country. The sh*thole talk actually reinforces the idea that places like El Salvador are still dangerous. How do you lift TPS and send El Salvadorans who are currently in the U.S. home if youre all but admitting that its unsafe? Update: Norwegian socialists versus poor but hard-working Africans. Why would Trump prefer the former to the latter?
Update: A fair retort to theatrical liberal horror at Trumps comment:

Gosh.... I'm more proud of our president, daily. Trump doesn't speak with politically correct forked tongue.
Say it the way it is, Trump... and if it hurts people's feelings, TFB.

Maybe he asked, "Why are we letting people in from hellhole countries?"

If he really said it, it's the most intelligent question he's asked in a year. The answer, of course, is in the Frankfurt School's original plan and strategy to destroy Western civiization. The strategy is working.

No one can out-troll the Troll King.
At exactly the moment he shouldn't really say something like this, he blurts it out in front of Dick Durbin.
Trump is gaslighting these self-inflated gasbags. It's part of his M.O. over many years.

Just because Trump comes from the shithole state of NY is no reason not to deport him back there. Same for Obama being deported back to the shithole state of Ill-annoy.
Drain the swamp!

Trump is speaking with the voice of the American people. This is why we elected him.
WHY DO WE HAVE TO TAKE IN ALL THESE IMMIGRANTS FROM SHITHOLE COUNTRIES?
The answer? The Democrats want them: they are future Democrat voters. The Republicans want them: they are cheap exploitable labor, and the Republican Party is controlled by business interests (which is why they speak with such disdain of "populists").
This is Trump's signature issue: The Wall. If he cannot get it done, he's finished, and so is the country in the long run.

About half of illegals arrived by air holding various types of visas (student, tourist, etc.) and just overstayed. The Wall won't deal with them.

Trump denies 'shithole' comment, but admits 'tough' language
President Trump on Friday rejected reports that he told lawmakers that the U.S. should block immigrants from "shithole" countries, but admitted he used "tough" language in that meeting.
"The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used," Trump tweeted Friday. "What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made a big setback for DACA!"

Asian Media Gets Its Hands Dirty Trying To Translate Trump
Asian media has apparently had a rough time trying to figure out exactly how to translate President Donald Trumps recent comment about shithole countries.
Why do we want all these people from shithole countries coming here? Trump reportedly asked lawmakers at the White House Thursday.
Translators worldwide have long struggled to make the presidents often unusual rhetoric accessible in other languages, with some Japanese translators expressing frustration with the nightmarish task of turning Trumpese into something their readers can understand.
With the presidents supposed shithole comment, translators at Asian media outlets have once again found themselves facing a challenge, specifically translating Trumps alleged statements without unintentionally offending their readers.
The Japanese media outlet NHK decided to go with filthy countries, but the newswire Jiji Press went with countries like toilets, according to Channel News Asia. The Sankei Shimbun took a similar approach and translated the presidents comment as countries as dirty as outdoor toilets.
South Koreas Yonhap News Agency ended up calling the countries beggars dens. Another South Korean outlet followed suit but decided to write the English word out.

Taiwans CNA reportedly translated it as countries where birds dont lay eggs, and mainland China thought rotten countries was better than the colloquial places where not even the birds will poop.
Vietnam did the same, going with rotten countries, as well as dirty and rubbish countries.
The Philippines, which has a president famous for his bombastic and foul-mouthed rhetoric characterized by the use of a variety of curse words, appeared to have no problem translating Trumps language, translating it directly as shithole.

Yeah, no kidding. The answer is simple. They are natural Democrap voters, dumb as hell. With enough of them, resettled in appropriate areas, they will ensure there will never again be any GOP office holders, and the entire govt will be dominated by Demoturds forever. We will then go the way of the Roman Empire - into the dustbin of history.
Those that condemned Trumps immigration meeting to save DACA, and form a " Bill of Love " were smart enough to understand that. Those that defended Trump were too dumb to understand the logical consequences !!

So, we deal with the worst and the poorest - those who cannot afford a plane ticket - with a wall, and we deal with the rest at the airports and schools.
No deflection. Stop resisting.
Build the Wall.

I hate that they start off by just caving in and granting amnesty to the DACA illegals. If they won't enforce the existing law, why should we believe that they'll enforce whatever they pass? So far President Trump has proven himself to be about as weak on immigration enforcement, as Obama and Bush. Catch & Release. The official deportation numbers are DOWN.
Some proposed items that are being considered:
1) Reduction in Chain Migration - Minor children of the DACA's, and once the DACA's become US citizens (eligible at 21?) their parents. Splits the kids who are minors in the USA, from their siblings who are supposed to be back in their home country (but in reality are probably already here, and won't be deported). Parents who choose to come to the USA are also split from the rest of the family back there.
2) E-Verify to make employers do the Presidents job for him, because he's too afraid to take the heat for doing so. I'm not a big fan of this universal Mark of the Beast identification scam. The government already knows who the illegal aliens are from the many gov programs and services that they're taking advantage of. Papers Please!
3) End the Visa Lottery - JUST DO IT!
4) Border Security and the Wall
Screw all the people around the world who think that they're living in a shithole, and need to come to the USA for "Political Refuge". Fix it yourself, overthrow the assclowns or whatever, PISS OFF!
This is the real ACT OF LOVE plan, if you eliminate the DACA amnesty.
Not being considered, but should be at the top of the list is cutting off non-citizen gov cheese and the many other freebie enticements to invade the USA and make yourselfs at home.
