| "Curb Your Enthusiasm" actor/comedian Larry David said he was taken aback by discovering ancestors who owned slaves in antebellum Alabama, according to a story by USA Today.
Henry Louis Gates Jr. -- the Harvard professor and host of PBS' "Finding Your Roots" -- said he's been trying to get David on his show for years, and he'll finally appear on tonight's season premier. The show traces the ancestral roots of celebrities. Those roots had more than one interesting surprise for David.

This Gates is the same Gates from 0bama's early "beer summit".
And his show on PBS earlier exposed the slaveowner ancestry of Ben Affleck who had three different slaveowners around the Confederacy in his family tree.
DailyMail.co.uk: link
| Ben Affleck has at least three ancestors who owned slaves including a wealthy landowner who bought a young boy who he appears to have set to work in his tanning business.
The Batman star's distant family can be traced to Connecticut and in 1728 they paid 80 pounds for a slave called Tobe who they kept until he was grown up. The bill of sale refers to Tobe as a 'negro boy' which the previous owner 'sold as my proper estate'. Tobe's owner was called Nathaniel Stanley and was known as a smart man of 'respected piety and evangelical sentiments' - but that did not stop him keeping slaves. Affleck's other slave owning ancestors were a man in Georgia and an Irish farmer from New Jersey who owned eight slaves. None of these details were shown in the episode of Finding Your Roots which featured Affleck after host Henry Louis Gates Jr edited them out, leaked Sony emails have revealed. . . . |
Toward the end, they mention Anderson Cooper's ancestor who owned a slave who murdered him. The slave was promptly hanged.
Funny how many of these raging libs have slaveowners in their family trees that they don't want us to know about.

If you're white and American and your ancestors have been here for a long time and were people of any quality, there are slaveowners in your background, and as likely as not you've got black first cousins quite a bit fewer times removed than Noah's generation.

Hogwash.
I find progressive families owned slaves whereas most average hardworking family did not. In fact slavery was over blown and only a small percentage of people owned slaves. These progressive families tend not to have real morals but fake morals like Pelosi and Shmuck.
I believe only 3% of the population of America owned slaves. The way the history is taught you would have thought every American owned slaves and that slaves built everything. None of which is true. Most of those people who owned slaves were extremely rich. SLaves cost more than a horse so you had to be well off to own a slave.

And of course, the vast majority of white people in this country are not related to slaveowners. They never constituted more than 6% of the population even in the Confederacy and less than that in the North. And the largest groups of whites in this country came here after the Civil War was over and we had nothing to do with slavery whatsoever.
That said, I'm all in favor of people like Larry David, Ben Affleck, and Anderson Cooper to pay reparations for what their ancestors did to slaves in this country.

It was greater than that.
To quote 1860 Census data, these are the percentage of free households in the slave states that owned slaves.
Mississippi: 49% South Carolina: 46% Georgia: 37% Alabama: 35% Florida: 34% Louisiana: 29% Texas: 28% North Carolina: 28% Virginia: 26% Tennessee: 25% Kentucky: 23% Arkansas: 20% Missouri: 13% Maryland: 12% Delaware: 3%

Yes, but what I originally said was this:
If you're white and American and your ancestors have been here for a long time and were people of any quality, there are slaveowners in your background, and as likely as not you've got black first cousins quite a bit fewer times removed than Noah's generation.
When I say "for a long time", I don't mean 100 years - that's only two generations in my family (my grandmother was born in 1897, my great aunt, in 1886). I mean generations and generations.
Those of us who go back to colonial days are descended from slaveowners.
I'm fine with that: it's history.
All white European Protestants are descended from Catholics too, if you go back far enough.
We're all descended from Noah and Naamah too. And therefore, from Lamech and Zillah, and Cain's line between Lamech and Cain, Cain himself, and Adam and Eve. Lots of common relatives way back there.

Its funny how these numbers change each year. Seems that 1860 was the peak of slavery. Black slavery has been a curse upon the world even though every race has been a slave at some point in history.
