The now-deleted tweet was a response to Devoss plans to rein in Title IX on college campuses.
A professor at Austin Community College tweeted that he would be OK if #BetsyDevos was sexually assaulted because of her intentions to change the guidelines for how colleges handle sexual assault.
Rob Ranco, who is an adjunct professor of paralegal studies, posted the tweet on Friday. It has since been deleted, but not before a screenshot was obtained by Campus Reform. It stated, in full: Im not wishing for it but Id be ok if #BetsyDevos was sexually assaulted.
Ranco then followed it with what seems to be some attempts at explanation:
Perhaps Betsy doesnt understand how horrible rape is. Shes made the world more dangerous for my daughters. I need her to understand. (Yes, @twitter. My words were harsh. I dont wish harm on anyone. I wish theres some way #BetsyDevos would understand and care about others.
He also jokingly tweeted that Twitter trolls are now due process experts! Rancos tweets, of course, have faced a lot of criticism. His account (@RancoLaw) is not on Twitter anymore and a spokesperson from the school issued a statement to Campus Reform saying that the school does not condone these comments and their sentiment.
Ive got to say, Im really wondering just what in the hell this guy could have been thinking. Now, I do understand that there are a lot of problems with the way that we treat victims of rape and sexual assault in this culture. Its disgusting, but its true: There are far too many people who would rather just write off all accusers as being opportunistic liars than actually try to understand what it must feel like to be in a rape victims position to understand, for example, how issues like shame and/or power dynamics might prevent a woman from reporting her assault to the police.
Its very, very important to educate people on this issue. Its also important, however, to acknowledge the plain and simple fact that current Title IX guidelines have created a few problems of their own. As Reasons Robby Soave points out, people who are critical of Betsy DeVos for wanting to alter the guidelines should stop and think about the fact that every crazy Title IX case she referenced actually happened.
Rape is a serious issue, which is exactly why it should be handled in a serious manner for the sake of everyone involved. After all, as Soave explains, campus kangaroo courts not only force the accused to act as their own defense attorneys, but they also can force victims to have to act as their own prosecutors.
It allows for situations such as what happened at Stony Brook in New York, where an accuser had to face and question her alleged rapist herself, without the assistance of a lawyer or even her own therapist.
The truth is, acknowledging that there are serious problems with the way that rape victims are being treated, and acknowledging that there are problems with the way that colleges have been using Title IX, are not mutually exclusive. It doesnt do anyone any good to act as if they are, and it certainly doesnt do any good to say that youd be totally fine with someone being raped simply because she recognizes the latter problems.
Poster Comment:
This is why this idiot 'teaches' at a community college. He's an 'adjunk' professor of paralegal studies and is outraged by the notion of due process. And he can't even use good grammar. No wonder the kids learn nothing in college.

I think that when journalists run out of stuff to write, they whip up one of these Twitter fury stories, usually lifted from Twitchy.com that seemingly only exists to whip up Twits and their ilk.

Prof Resigns Law Firm Job After Tweeting "Id Be Ok If #BetsyDeVos Was Sexually Assaulted"
A Texas professor resigned Tuesday from his position at a law firm after tweeting the he would be ok if Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos was sexually assaulted.Robert Ranco, who serves as a paralegal studies adjunct professor at Austin Community College, resigned from the Carlson Law Firm after speaking with the firms founder, Craig Carlson, reported Fox 7.
Im not wishing for it but Id be ok if #BetsyDeVos was sexually assaulted, read Rancos Friday tweet, according to Campus Reform.
I wasnt going to make a rash decision about a member of this family just to appease people on social media, said Carlson to Fox 7. That said, I considered the health of everyone in our organization, promised my partners and my employees that we would act according to the values of our firm, and sat down to speak with Mr. Ranco.
The two individuals purportedly concluded that even expressing apathy towards sexual assault is [an] affront to all victims and a line that simply cannot be uncrossed.
After receiving some backlash, Ranco said his statement was harsh and he doesnt wish harm on anyone. The professors tweet and Twitter account have since been deleted.
The recent social media comments made by a part-time employee on his personal page do not represent ACCs vision, mission, and values, said an Austin Community College spokesperson to Campus Reform. The college does not condone these comments and their sentiment.
DeVos gave a speech Thursday in which she argued that the Obama-era Department of Education had not adequately defended the due process rights of accused students.

Yes, THAT would be perfect justice, but that was before before this insane world turned into a permanent Onion/MAD Mag parody...
Instead he'll be lionized on campus, be promoted to Dean, invited as a special guest on all the Late Night Liberal Propaganda "Talk" shows...

I'd say 50-50 he loses the lecturer gig as well. The campus Lefties who compete at who can be the most offended on every damned day of the year will find it hard to resist burning this guy at the stake, just for a little sweet self-righteousness.

I'd actually be shocked the guy takes any flak from his own co-nuts. Remember -- his leftist ilk regard deVos with extreme contempt. How would they be "offended" on any level? Their enemies deserve to die. That's is their one unifying theme.
This tweet IMO makes him "courageous" and "taking one for the team."

He trivialized rape. He came close to suggesting some women deserve to be raped.
In the hierarchy of Things SJWs Hate, the hate for DeVos is much lower than the white-hot passion they have over rape generally.
Try to keep your priorities straight and check your white rape privilege, you monster.

Only a racist rapist would say something like that.
Why are you so criminally white?
[See how easy this is? It doesn't require any real intelligence or wit to fling accusations about.]

I'm going to go out on a limb here and state that I doubt there is a single adult or teen female in this country that doesn't understand how horrible rape is,regardless of if they have been raped or not.
BTW,I wrote "raped or not" because if you take the broadest definition of rape as your minimum definition, which includes getting a date drunk while you are also drunk and then having sex with her without getting a notarized agreement with her agreeing to have drunken sex with drunken you prior to the date, most females have been raped by the time they are 20.
BTW-2,the scenario quoted above should NOT be included as rape in any legal sense. It absolves the female of ANY and ALL responsibility for what two drunken people do,and waters the term "rape" down to the point where it is meaningless and this harms genuine rape victims were were violently violated against their will, and almost always in fear of their lives and physically and emotionally harmed by the act. Comparing actual rape to some drunken female not taking personal responsibility for her own poor judgement is an insult to actual rape victims. BTW,I am NOT including having sex with a female who is so drunk she is passed out as NOT being actual rape. It is.

Only when it happens to them.
The left apparently is against violence; but justifies a white person getting beaten to death heading home with groceries. They justify the attack as a valid response to violent white privilege.

Yes we saw that vicious attitude with 'climate change' during the Hurricanes.
These Pinkos have no compassion outside their own little minds and those who follow them like sheep. Their judgmental attitude towards others not in their little sewing group think is worse than the Irish Catholic guilt complex I grew up with. :)

BINGO!
They look the other way because they think Muslims are useful idiots for their COEXIST model. When in fact the Muslims hate them and are using them as useful idiots.
It's quite maddening to watch this unfold.
And the Pinkos won't know or won't take the blinders off until Muslims start tossing them off roof tops.
The Florida gay night club shooting is an example of how Muzzies truly view Pinkos, especially homosexual ones.

Austin Community College Professor Resigns After Tweeting Id Be OK If Betsy DeVos Was Sexually Assaulted
Attorney and professor Robert Ranco has resigned from his teaching post at Austin Community College after tweeting hed be OK if Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos was sexually assaulted.
In a tweet that has since been deleted, Attorney and Austin Community College Professor Robert Ranco wrote that he would be ok if Betsy DeVos was sexually assaulted. The tweet has since been archived.
Rancos tweet came in response to DeVos announcement that she would be implementing changes on how universities handle sexual assault investigations. Specifically, DeVos is implementing changes that will ensure that those accused of sexual misconduct receive the due process rights they deserve.
Earlier this week, Ranco resigned from The Carlson Law Firm. He released an apology statement in which he called the tweet a mistake.
Now, Ranco has resigned from his post as an adjunct professor of paralegal studies at Austin Community College. In a statement, the school wrote that Rancos tweet does not represent the colleges values. The comment he posted on his personal social media page does not represent ACCs vision, mission, or values, the schools statement read. The college never condones sexual assault under any circumstance.
Ranco released an apology to DeVos on Twitter. I made comments directed at you that were absolutely inexcusable, and I am sorry for that, he wrote. I may disagree with your policies, but please know that I dont believe anyone should ever be subjected to a sexual assault.

Not a detail lost on those who followed this story.
We'll all presume he'll be quickly re-hired by fellow brethren at another Marxist-run propaganda mill and unscrupulous law firm.
NO such thing as "too offensive" to the Left, Anarchists, or those with ZERO principles.

Everyone is more comfortable with a resignation than a firing. That's just how it is.
Fewer lawsuits, the employee walks away with some dignity, etc.
Among professionals, you'll almost always see resignations instead of a firing.

Dunno. Depends on whether you need a hearing aid to hear a fully revving 747 engine inches away from your ear.

Yes...but context matters, doesn't it?
There is a double standard in effect once again. When the subject "offender" is a *conservative*, then the firing is LOUD, PROUD and indicting of ALL the subject's ilk. When as in THIS case the subject offender is Leftist, then instead of a LOUD firing, the subject is allowed unmerited dignity to leave on their terms.
Among professionals, you'll almost always see resignations instead of a firing.
Yes, I understand. UNDER NORMAL circumstances. But "professional" in this case is relative. The protocol seems NOT to apply when the offending target of what may be considered a "Hate Speech" and personal expressed and suggested threat is a Trump Cabinet member, associate, or family member.

True dat.
I believe one Muzzie recently went on record as saying that were his death cult to start criticizing homosexual behavior, they risked losing them as allies. This is exactly why they remain mute. And why Muzzie Bakers are NEVER asked to bake wedding cakes for Queers.
These cases -- as well as BOTH sides choosing to ignore that Miami Beach gay club slaughter by a Muzzie -- proved the adage, "The Enemy of my Enemy is my friend."
So what we have is an alliance of Death Cult Muzzies, Queer Mafia, BLM, guilty white self-loathing feminist white Marxists (male/female), AND militant atheists acting as armed divisions in a culture war against Heterosexual, White-Christian-male American patriots.

BTW,*I* don't think ANYONE should have the right to sue a business for not performing for them. Just like you have the right to go somewhere else, shop owners have a right to do business with people of their choice.
