President Trump said Tuesday hes prepared to let ObamaCare fail after the collapse of Senate Republicans latest health care bill, indicating hes willing to move on to tax reform and other issues and deal with an Affordable Care Act fix down the road.
I think were probably in that position where well just let ObamaCare fail, Trump told reporters at the White House. Were not going to own it. Im not going to own it. I can tell you the Republicans are not going to own it. Well let ObamaCare fail, and then the Democrats are going to come to us.
He spoke after two more Republican senators came out late Monday against the Senate bill, effectively killing its chances in its current form. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., plans to call a vote on a bill to repeal ObamaCare now and replace it later, but on Tuesday afternoon left the door open to working with Democrats if that fails.
Poster Comment:
The Dumocrats and their anti-American leader O'Dumbo trotted out the most complicated piece of legislation in history. After NOT reading the damned thing they signed into law. Health care, like Education and many other areas of bureaucrat building is NOT the province of this infernal central socialist government.
Let it die and do nothing more.

We can't even get moderate Republicans to support the changes. What will the bill have to look like to get Democrat support?

The hospital emergency room will go unpaid and then ultimately be reimbursed by the federal government at some percentage of its outlay. The doctors will write off the rest and take the deduction as a business loss on their income tax, and thus be reimbursed for about half of the difference through their income taxes.
So in the end, the government pays either way.

Exactly how does the ACA "die"?
Enrollment is down only slightly from last year, the subsidies are still in place.....
Of course there are insurance providers who are opting not to sell coverage in some areas....
If the ACA is still "the law of the land" at this time next year....it will become THE defining issue of the 2018 mid-terms because of the inaction of the majority party...to make health insurance better and more affordable as promised -
Likewise any action that causes large #'s of Americans to lose coverage or reestablishes preexisting condition exclusion.....
It looks like a no-win for the r's

It goes bankrupt. It runs out of insurance companies, doctors and participants.
CJ Roberts fed it a poison pill. As a penalty under the Commerce Clause (unconstitutional), the individual mandate could be raised to any desired amount to coerce people to buy in. As a tax, under the taxing power (constitutional), as with any tax, it may not be raised to a punitive level to coerce compliance.
Obamacare, as an economic model, has been the walking dead since its inception. Some counties already have ZERO insurance providers on their exchanges.
The Law of the Land, without an insurance provider, and without massive additional funding, fails. Obamacare only really works as a phase-in to single-payer.

It is doubtful that The ACA "dies" before the mid-term election....
And your 2nd point is correct - that will be the solution pitched in 2018.

If the payments and deductibles continue to skyrocket, and insurers continue to drop out, and Trump refuses to sign any bailouts, it may well go bust before the 2018 elections. It was created as a gateway to single payer. Get 'em hooked, bait and switch.
