Politics live: Protesters force suspension of Question Time By political reporter Stephanie Anderson and Henry Belot

Protesters force the brief suspension of Question Time in the House of Representatives.

They appeared to be protesting against the proposed changes to the Migration Act.

Here's what's making news today:   ABCC: Senate passes Government's key industrial relations bill

Backpacker tax: Senate rejects Government's 15 per cent rate

Education: Australia slipping down international leaderboard, behind Kazakhstan

Syria: Australian fighter jets dropped bombs on government forces in botched air strikes

US deal: Refugees could be given help reuniting with family in resettlement deal

Brandis: AG to face new Senate inquiry about his role in Bell Group litigation 1 minute ago

Business as usual The Opposition is pressing the government on the backpacker tax and George Brandis now that Question Time has resumed.   Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has asked:   Will the Prime Minister rule out appointing Senator Brandis to a diplomatic or judicial post before the next election?   With a nod to the Shadow Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has responded:   I knew that the Member for Isaacs' enmity towards Senator Brandis was an obsession, I didn't realise it was infectious.

The Australian parliament was disrupted by protesters today over an issue that has been long debated. This may be a small issue in a far away place but somewhat unprecedented in western politics. I guess you could say it is all happening in this very active political scene where the government is distracted from dealing with criminality in the Union movement to deal with a mob of yahoo. the Speaker has called for an investigation as to how they accessed the Chamber while the PM has a bemused expression as he waits for the call to answer the pressing questions outlined above, like was there a complete stuff up in Syria and how were we aided in this by our American allies Where has democracy come when it can so easily be given over to mob rule and the protesters apparently came armed with superglue and glued themselves to the fittings, comic opera at best

Bring those bombers home,

hey, would like to do that but they are supposed to bomb Daesh and undoubtedly they are there at the request of our ally in Chief who would rather commit someoneelse's forces than his own. I'm sure you have similar circuses on C-span and if you don't you should and no doubt soon will

Say WHAT? "Mob Rule" DEFINES Democracy! It's why democracies always fail.
