Donald J. Trump is president-elect of the United States. Now theres a sentence I never thought Id write.
Against all odds and against all forms of the establishment, he prevailed. He won, legitimately, including in many states that were thought to be safely blue. The pundits and the polls were wrong. There was more pent-up hunger for change and also racial, ethnic and economic angst than many models considered.
Mr. Trump will become this countrys 45th president. For me, it is a truly shocking fact, a bitter pill to swallow. I remain convinced that this is one of the worst possible people who could be elected president. I remain convinced that Trump has a fundamentally flawed character and is literally dangerous for world stability and injurious to Americas standing in that world.
There is so much that I cant fully comprehend.
It is hard to know specifically how to position yourself in a country that can elect a man with such staggering ineptitude and open animus. It makes you doubt whatever faith you had in the country itself.
Also, let me be clear: Businessman Donald Trump was a bigot. Candidate Donald Trump was a bigot. Republican nominee Donald Trump was a bigot. And I can only assume that President Donald Trump will be a bigot.
It is absolutely possible that America didnt elect him in spite of that, but because of it. Consider that for a second. Think about what that means. This is America right now: throwing its lot in with a man who named an alt-right sympathizer as his campaign chief.
How can I make sense of the fact that the president appeared in pornos?
How can I make sense of the fact that the man who will appoint the next attorney general has himself boasted of assaulting women? What will this presidents vaunted law and order program for inner cities look like in an age where minority communities are already leery of police aggression?
How do I make sense of the fact that a man who attacked a federal judge for his Mexican heritage will be the man who will nominate the next Supreme Court justice and scores of federal judges?
I cant make it make sense because it doesnt. I must sit with the absurdity of it.
I must settle this in myself in this way: I respect the presidency; I do not respect this president-elect. I cannot. Count me among the resistance.
I hope that there are areas where people in Washington can agree to actually advance Americas interests, but Im doubtful. Trump has made multiple campaign promises, promises he will be obliged to keep, that would specifically do harm.
My thoughts are now with the immigrant families he has threatened to deport and the Muslims he has threatened to bar and the women he has demeaned and those he is accused of assaulting and the disabled whom he apparently has no problem mocking.
My thoughts are with the poor people afflicted by ill health who were finally able to receive medical insurance coverage, sometimes lifesaving coverage, and the fear they must feel now that there is a president committed to repealing and replacing it (with what, I dont know), and who has a pliable Congress at his disposal.
When I think of all these people and then think of all the people who voted to make this man president and those who didnt vote, thereby easing the way for his ascension I cannot help but feel some measure of anger. I must deal with that anger. I dont want to wrestle it to the ground; I want to harness it.
I have spent much of my life and definitely much of my time writing this column championing the causes of vulnerable populations. That work only becomes more important now. Trump represents a clear and very present danger, and it is in the face of that danger that courage and truth are made more necessary and more perfect.
I strongly support and defend the peaceful transfer of power in this country and applaud the current administration for doing what is right and normal in America, what every prior departing administration has done: to make sure the transfer of power is as smooth as possible.
We need a Trump presidency to succeed to some degree at least to have it do as little harm to the republic as possible in order for America to remain safe, steady and strong during his tenure.
That doesnt mean that I dont believe Trump to be an abomination, but rather that I honor one of the hallmarks of our democracy and that I am an American interested in protecting America.
That said, it is impossible for me to fall in line behind an unrepentant bigot. It will be impossible for me to view this man participating in the pageantry and protocols of the presidency and not be reminded of how he is a demonstrated demagogue who is also a sexist, a racist, a xenophobe and a bully.
That is not a person worthy of applause. That is a person who must be placed under unrelenting pressure. Power must be challenged, constantly. That begins today.

Why now? He has been in the public eye for most of his life and no one said a word. But when someone runs against the demoncrap party the demoncrats pull shit out of the sewer and sling it to see if it will stick and if it doesn't who cares who it hurts! The end justifies the means!

It was either Clinton or Trump and the best candidate won. There was no one else that could have won.
Donald Trump is the clear & present danger to our society now... He is a disruptive antagonist... not good leadership material.
As compared to want? Obama? He will be 1000 times less an issue than Obama or Clinton. Crazy ass progressives may pop some brain cells but who cares and how could one tell any way? ;)
MSM has put out so much bs that in the end we will find out he is not anything like they claimed.

Donald Trump is not a "bigot" in the sense of the word you mean. He opposes the political agenda of certain groups of people who have organized to advance a certain agenda. You yourself, Charles, are part of at least one of those groups. You're a mouthpiece of it. You're writing in anger, and in sincerity. But if you want to understand, you can understand. I can explain it to you myself, from the common ground of humanity.
But if you'll deny Trump and me the status of sincere human beings along with you, then you will never understand. I think your career is build on not understanding, of seeking division, gaining energy from the division, and winning battles based on that energy.
It doesn't have to be as bad as you think it is. It's up to you if you really want to understand enough to come down off the ledge. If you've just gotta jump, well, I won't stop you.

The author said Trump "boasted of assaulting women". His boast was, "And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything."
He never boasted of assaulting women. In fact, he never said he touched anyone.

Learn the difference: Accept vs. Except
Do I accept an invitation or except it? If someone is left off of an invitation list, has she been excepted or accepted? Whats the difference between these two terms, and how can we keep them straight?
Accept means, most broadly, to take or receive (something offered) or receive with approval or favor, as in I accept this trophy.
Except has a verb sense of to exclude; leave out, as in the phrase present company excepted. But it can also be used as a preposition, as in They were all there except me, and a conjunction, as in Every inch of the facility was well fortified except here. Except is also widely used in the phrase except for, meaning were it not for, as in She would travel more except for lack of money.
One easy way to keep these two terms straight is to zero in on the ex- in except and associate it with exclude. When determining whether to use except or accept in a sentence, first consider what part of speech the context calls for:
As with some other commonly confused terms, accept and except share a linguistic ancestor. Both can be traced to the Latin verb capere meaning to take. The prefix ex- means out of. The prefix ac- is a variant of ad-, which occurs in loanwords from Latin where it meant toward.
And there you have it! Hopefully youll accept our help with these two termsof course, those who dont need the assistance are cheerfully excepted.

The BEST thing to do when in the situation that man was in would be to snatch a eye out of the head of the first one that attacks you,and make him eat it. I can guarantee you he wouldn't be able to run fast enough to catch any of them if he had done that.
If you attack me as a lone attacker,I will cut you some slack. If you try to ratpack me,I will do my damndest to cripple you in some fashion for life,if I don't outright kill you. My goal will be to make you scream in pain so loud that your mama can hear it over Oprah on her tv 5 miles away.
But maybe that's just me. I could be wrong, but it has worked in the past. Those people aren't brave. If they were brave it wouldn't take more than 5 of them to have the courage to attack one lone man. Scare them by taking out the lead attacker, and they are GONE.

Yup,sure does. First time in recorded history, too! (G)
Trump was in it to kick the shit out of Obama.
I still THINK he was in it to help her,but I THINK his ego got the best of him once he won the primary,so he went for it.
This has just begun! ;)
Oh,yeah. My new prediction about Trump is there is a chance the same massive ego that convinced him to go for it will also make him do his best to be a good president because he just wouldn't be able to live with history books putting him down as the worse president in the history of the US. There is nothing he fears more than being tagged a loser, and there is no more public stage to win or lose on than the Office of President of the United States.
I still hope Congress hammers his ass if he tries to put his business interests in the hands of his daughter instead of an actual blind trust. Handing over control to your family is NOT the same thing as putting it in a blind trust no matter who you are.
