He appears to be the polar opposite of Trump.

Could be that he was ordered to pick Pence, just like Reagan was forced to pick GHW Bush as his running mate.

Trump is trying to make his ticket a more well rounded team. They purposely looked for a VP to fill in the gaps where Trump falls short.

Reagan wanted Ford - ...the shadow government did not care for Reagan when he first ran for president.

After winning the White House, Reagan, never known for his detail oriented approach to administering, probably unknowingly allowed his cabinet to be filled with the same shadow government types he campaigned against.

Well, if Pence's views are as I have heard, I don't think it is a good choice.

I doubt Trump picked him for anything less than a scientific-factual study that shows this no-name is the single best choice to increase Trumps popularity and appease the trump hating conservatives.

Interesting theory.

The attack on Reagan, carried out by the son of a long time Bush friend, and business partner. The attempt on Reagans life was just that, an attempt.
