I could never imagine myself really cheering on ENGLAND, the hereditary foe.
But here goes: RULE BRITANNIA! BRITANNIA RULE THE WAVES! BRITONS NEVER, NEVER, NEVER SHALL BE SLAVES!
God Save the Queen!
If the British do this thing, France will follow suit - the French people are really disgusted with the EU now, especially after Germany soiled the bed by opening up to millions of Muslim immigrants without consulting anybody.
I was rooting for Scottish Independence because I really just hate the English. But if the English actually do it, if they really decide to recapture their sovereignty tonight, I will want to kiss every Englishwoman or Englishman I meet.
GULP. Rule Britannia! GULP.

First, the polls indicated that Remain would win.
Second, there are so many trillions at stake that I assumed that the Remain forces would successfully rig the vote to ensure they got the result they wanted.
So, seeing the Leave vote apparently surging, and seeing that it's actually apparently going to happen, it's wonderful.
It's wonderful because so many other nations are chafing at the EU bit as well. France, Holland, Denmark, Sweden - their people all want to go. With England out, it will be very easy for France to do the same now.
The EU could have been a grand thing. But it didn't live up to it promise. It became dominated by a narrow, strangling financial interest and lost the support of its people.
But really, when the Germans simply opened up their borders, without consultation with their neighbors (with whom they have the open borders pact) and let in millions of Muslims, they effectively fed rat poison to the EU project.
BREXIT means that the "yob" vote, the nationalist vote, wins. And that is a very good sign for Donald Trump too.

With Brexit, I have a surprise, smashing victory for my beliefs. Free immigration of French people into England, or English into French, or Dutch and Irish and Danes, all that - nobody cares about that. But free immigration of every Muslim who happens to get an immigration card from some dithering government on the periphery? NO! Just like the Mexican Border. NO, dammit - we have the right to determine who gets to be here.

You are confused about international agreements such as in the integration of free passage between member countries and a single currency in the EU, as opposed to separate nations that share a common border such as the US & Mexico with the Clinton NAFTA agreement which is a completely DIFFERENT approach to the respective neighborhood.

Apparently, neither are the British people. They've been in the EU for a long time, and they've had their fill of it. Now they are leaving, reasserting their sovereignty, and charting their own course for the future.
And immigration into their country at rates beyond which they were willing to tolerate was a core factor in their decision.
America faces the same issue. The political classes and the economic classes view broad immigration as good for the country - as defined by their interests. But the broad back of the people do not. Because the political and economic classes refuse to listen and will not yield, they will have to be broken. By Trump.
The issue is the same on both sides of the sea.
It is why a Frexit will be on the cards next. The French are well and truly sick of it also, and they will be voting with their feet. The English example gives them an incredible boost in hope.
Rule Britannia, Britannia rule your own land again. God save the Queen.

But like you I believe this is an over reaction and the markets will more or less rebound in the short term. The fact is that the UK isn't getting out of the EU any time soon.

Truth be told, it's a tantrum by the moneymen. Nationalism trumped economics. Hard. They don't like that, it's not in their playbook for major nations to do that.
When minor nations do it, they close in and punish. But when the UK does it, they find their money power really is inferior to democracy, and it panics them, and pisses them off, so they have a tantrum.

That would not be a retreat but an attack on our invaders.
What would the Land of OZ do if illegals were pouring into your country by the secret boat loads in the same relative proportions to what has and is happening in the U.S.? Would you sh*t or go blind OR "retreat" behind walls along your shorelines? Are the kids of illegals born in your country automatically citizens of Oz? Do you permit anchor babies and allow their illegal extended families to stay in your country and put then all of them on the government dole, provide for their medical needs and schooling?
The UK gave its answer of sorts to that question yesterday? Was that a retreat?
For whatever Trump is, he might have the best answer to the illegal infestation problem of the U.S. but he sure has a better answer than anyone currently in power or prior or prospective. And certainly an infinitely better answer than Hillary's.

When the French officers came enmasse to my command post they smelled worse than we did.
My unit was in the field without showers for over a month and they (the French) who just came from a 5 star hotel to the field location stunk up the joint.
However the Dutch have them beat. We used to hand out 'care packages' of personal hygiene items to the Dutch or just leave it in their workspace hoping they would use it. They would take everything but the underarm deodorant. Go figure, the thing they needed most.

Cameron is resigning because he has a vision of the world. His vision of the world included a strong Britain participating in and growing prosperous through participation in the larger E.U.
He believed that the Scots at heart wanted to part of the UK, so he gave them their referendum, campaigned diligently for them to stay, and proved to know the Scots well: they voted to stay.
Likewise, Cameron looked at the UK as a whole, and the difficult and paralyzed political environment caused by Euroskepticism in Britain. He saw that the best future of the UK was as a member in economic unity with Europe, and he believed in it. He thought that the majority of his people believed in it to, so he permitted a referendum specifically to address the issue, once and for all - to let the British people speak and, by their vote for remaining, to be able to clear aside the resistance of the minority to forward steps for further integration with the EU, which he has always believed was best for Britain.
Last night the British people, and particularly the English people, told him quite decisively that they do not agree, that they do not share his belief in the EU, that they want to go another way, a sovereigntist, independent way.
Cameron respects the British people - that's why he let them vote on it. He respects them, but he did not fully understand them. They do not want to go whither he would lead them. They said so last night.
He's heartbroken by it, obviously, but he is also a fundamentally decent and democratic man. The People have spoken, and he respects their verdict. But he himself simply does not believe in the course they have chosen. He cannot enthusiastically embrace it and pretend that he does. Where he would lead them, they will not follow. He doesn't have the heart in it to want to lead them where they do want to go. He doesn't believe in it. It is as he said: he is not the right captain for the ship of state on that course.
So instead of remaining in power and using his position to obstruct and delay the will of the British people, he decided to relinquish command and give it up to some other leader who is willing to sail that course, who believes in it. He doesn't.
He did not inveigh against or berate the British people. He acknowledged their democratic choice and respects it. He also respects himself and his own beliefs, and does not want to lead his nation in a direction he doesn't support.
I think what Cameron has done here is utterly decent. He really seems to be a good man.
I'm reminded of the Honorable Sam Houston, hero of the War of 1812 with Andrew Jackson, governor of Tennessee, then victorious at San Jacinto where he captured Santa Ana and won Texas independence, twice elected President of the Republic of Texas, and elected governor of the State of Texas in 1859.
In 1861, a secession convention voted to secede from the Union. Houston refused to swear loyalty to the Confederacy and so was removed from office.
When offered a US Army command to suppress the rebellion in Texas, he also refused, preferring instead to retire to his rural home in Huntsville, where he died before the war ended.
After he was ousted from the governor's office (on March 28, 1861), as he traveled he was confronted by many Texans who demanded that he explain why he refused to support the Confederacy. Here was his public answer, given from a hotel window in Galveston on April 19, 1861:
""Let me tell you what is coming. After the sacrifice of countless millions of treasure and hundreds of thousands of lives, you may win Southern independence if God be not against you, but I doubt it. I tell you that, while I believe with you in the doctrine of states rights, the North is determined to preserve this Union. They are not a fiery, impulsive people as you are, for they live in colder climates. But when they begin to move in a given direction, they move with the steady momentum and perseverance of a mighty avalanche; and what I fear is, they will overwhelm the South."
Cameron does not believe in Brexit. And, like Sam Houston, he is not willing to lead his nation into what he believes to be a disaster. That is why he resigned.

Yes. Cameron is resigning exactly because his nightmarish vision of the world was roundly rejected -- a vision in which subservience and enslavement of personal and national sovereignty of Britain was sacrificed on the altar of his satanic/fascist One World Government masters; His vision where only two classes exist: serf and lord. His loyalty was pledged NOT to Britain, but to his EU overlords.
Cameron respects the British people - that's why he let them vote on it.
He "LET" them?? Well, wasn't THAT awfully white of him? Cameron was an Elitist, with a capital "E". He was Lord of the Flies. He did NOT represent the best interests of the British people. He's lucky he's not run out on a rail straight to Brussels thru the Chunnel as a cautionary tale to other American and Western Elites whose personal "vision" eliminated common sense immigration policy, consent of the governed and pride in a national identity.
Cameron looked at the UK as a whole, and the difficult and paralyzed political environment caused by Euroskepticism in Britain. He saw that the best future of the UK was as a member in economic unity with Europe, and he believed in it.
At what price?
Samuel Adams said it better than anyone:
"If ye love wealth better than liberty,
the tranquility of servitude
better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace.
We ask not your counsels or your arms.
Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you.
May your chains set lightly upon you,
and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."
Btw, that so-called "Euroskepticism in Britain" was caused by impractically insane micro-management of British life under the boot of un-elected bureaucrats in Brussels, and the EU's insane immigration policy which flooded it's green and pleasant land which the stain of unfettered jihadis.
As an aside -- why are mainstays Sneakypete and TooConservative gone? If they disapprove of Trump, then so what. Let everyone debate the way the forum has always been played. We disapproved when JR censored. Of course the usual idiots should be jettisoned.

it was a nail in the coffin when they tried to create an undemocratic 'nation' on a common currency ,and some common defense. They left out some key ingredients like common language and customs. The EU was always a false entity . Most of the Brit laws in recent years have come out of the unelected hall of Brussels. If I were a Brit I would've voted to exit just on that issue alone.

Just to be clear about my point.
These jobs are essentially CLOSED to non-Hispanic workers. They are not advertised, the only way you get them is by word of mouth. The people who hire for these jobs and even the people who work them are highly suspicious of outsiders. If I were to go there ( assuming I wanted to work in the hot sun all day for $6 an hour), they would say sorry, no openings. Even unknown Hispanics are not trusted.
There are large American farmers and builders who control this. They stay far in the background. They hire legal Hispanics as subcontractors. They hire mostly illegals who are glad to have this work because they have guaranteed money on a regular basis. They wouldn't be able to get any job that required a SSN. Most any white or black legal could fairly easily get a better job than this for more money. If these field jobs paid $15 an hour ( as they probably should in a free market that consisted solely of legal citizens) many Americans would be lining up to do the work.
These illegals also know how to game the system. It is very hard to get SNAP, but they can get medicaid pretty easily. They don't feel guilty at all about what they are doing, and just feel they are doing what they need to do to make good lives.
This is not a conspiracy theory. It's the way this works. Anybody who has been around it knows it.

Tom this isn't done in isolation we will all feel the impact, this is the GFC all over again, particularly in Britain. There is a selfish part of me that says this is good for my nation, we will regain lost markets, and there is a part of me that says I don't need another hit to the bottom line and our stocks and currency have taken a big hit. The EU has trodden all over democratic process and has recieved a smack in the face for allowing it. We have all forgotten that they will not emerge from this unscaved, they are no longer the largest economy in the World with the prospect of others leaving, we may even observe the break up of the UK after 300 years, a lesson to all federations, I hear Texas wants out

Bravado talk. Im not opposed to it but the problem is progressives in charge of the US govenrment are ruining the lives of the average person for their own personal desires. In time the corrupt group would find its way into Texas government. It always starts with "its to help the poor disadvantage peoples"!
It would be nice to see a bunch of demoncrats squeal and hopefully run across the border so they can get US government tit back.

Probably around the time that the name was changed from "TooConservative" to "tooconservative". TC lost the capital letters when he was reinstated. A search shows no record of the name with caps. "Revisionist history", at it's finest.

Those were happier times, when we could discuss things in an adult manner. Then Trump came along, and temper tantrums....

Texas and the territory brought into the Union in consequence of annexation, were purchased with both blood and treasure; and Texas, with a domain greater than that of any European state except Russia, was permitted to retain as state property all the public lands within its borders.
It would have been ingratitude and injustice of the most flagrant sort for this State to withdraw from the Union after all that had been spent and done to introduce her

At least that and more. I don't like Trump but I can't stand Hillary or anything DRat. If I could I would piss on all of the Millennials. Unfortunately it seems that both Hillary and the Millennials will win and they will piss on me. OZ isn't immune to this. If your society hasn't yet started to change it will - kind of as in On The Beach, it's inevitable.

I would think that real things, like God, silver, Real Estate and a few others will go thru the roof, but paper will tank till it reaches a level where it actually reflects the value of the company and it's leadership.
Just my guess.

I think we are beyond On the Beach. That movie created a wrong idea of our society and has no relevance today. We find the millenials here a shiftless lot, probably due to lack of opportunity, if you don't have skills in this society, you don't go far. They cannot be expected to exhibit any political view unless rabble roused on Facebook or Twitter. Anyway we will euthanase ourselves because some twit in the UK or US made a mess

As those of us that are not millennials or are not trying to sell then something do. You kid yourself if you think the millennial mindset is not impacting your society. The following is some light reading selected to expand you understanding of your ouwn society:
Millennial Survey 2016
How to connect with the Millennial Generation
And this one is especially for you.
Show me a baby boomer who thinks Australian millennials are a bunch of self-interested slackers and Ill show you Jennifer Rayners Generation Less. Gina Rushton is a millennial, and a journalist on The Australian. Generation Less: How Australia is Cheating the Young, By Jennifer Rayner. She clearly sees things quite differently as you - in fact she claims that you are dead wrong in your characterization of OZ's Millenial generation and in fact blames you for their sense of hopelessly.
"Older Australians frequently haul out this tired trope of the millennial as a self-indulgent product of the proliferation of identity politics: a crude device-dependent caricature believing he or she is a special snowflake who deserves to float through the workforce and property market without sacrifice, patience and the expenditure of elbow grease. But Rayners palpable frustration is fuelled by the understanding that her cohort is precisely the same as its forebears: Theres nothing exceptional about todays younger workers; they are not looking for a special leg-up, just a raft of policies to better target the new barriers they face.
Home ownership a dream I gave up as soon as I entered the rental market obviously takes up a large chunk of the essay. Rayner doesnt begrudge homeowners and insists they havent intentionally shut the door to the property market behind them. But she understands why her peers have given up on the Australian dream. Sacrifice doesnt get you as much as it used to: Years of scrimping to buy a draughty weatherboard or a house-and-land package an hour from the city just isnt worth it.
One aspect that filled me with a peculiar smugness was the acknowledgment that our parents are beneficiaries of some of the things they like to tell you they didnt have in their day, when in fact they directly benefit from globalisation and the rise of technology right here and right now. It is still their day."
One last piece of info for you. Globally by 2020, Millennials Will Comprise Half the Global Workforce. Does OZ have a social security system?

To understand things properly, one must know that in the software, there is a table of all screen names, and each screen name is assigned a unique index number.
The administrator can change a screen name, but the index number associated with it does not change. This index number is what is used in the software to ID the person making each comment. So if the administrator changes a screen name, then the displayed name shown as the *author* of all comments made by that person will be retroactively changed.
However....
There are 2 separate mechanisms involved with tracking who is pinged to comments.
The first mechanism is simply the "To" line. It is recorded as text exactly as the commenting author specifies, complete with misspellings or upper/lower case mistakes. This is the "To" line that is displayed when reading a thread.
The second mechanism is involves the addition of entries in the DB that find the index number of all screen names appearing on the "To" line. The software does a case insensitive match, or tries to, of all names in the To line to an existing screen names. Those that are found have the associated index numbers added to a table for that particular comment.
Even so, any comments displayed have the original "To" line shown, appearing exactly as the author specified.
The end result is that if a screen name is altered by an administrator, even if it's just some letters from upper to lower case, all comments authored by that person are retroactively changed to show the new name. But the screen names shown on the "To" line are not altered, so the original screen name will still appear.
Modifying all "To" lines to reflect these changes is a much bigger task and potentially problematic, as people sometimes misspell screen names or address people in unusual ways.
If TooConservative's screen name was errantly changed to "tooconservative" the easy fix is to just rename it with the proper case.
