(CNSNews.com) – An official with the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy told a Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee Thursday that the number of deaths involving heroin increased 340 percent from 2007 to 2014, the latest year of available data.

“In 2014, the most current year for which we have data, more than 47,000 Americans or approximately 129 people each day died from a drug overdose. Of the overdose deaths in 2014, 22 percent involved heroin,” Kemp Chester, associate director for the National Heroin Coordination Group within the Office of National Drug Control Policy, told the committee during a hearing titled, “Cartels and the U.S. Heroin Epidemic: Combating Drug Violence and Public Health Crisis.”

“The threat posed by heroin has continued to grow dramatically over the past several years, and since 2007, deaths involving heroin have risen 340 percent--from 2,402 in 2007 to 10,574 in 2014. Heroin use is spreading to suburban and rural communities and is growing among most socio-economic classes, age groups and races,” he told the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women's Issues.

Mexico is the primary supplier of heroin to the U.S. “with Mexican drug traffickers cultivating opium poppy, producing heroin, and smuggling the finished product into the United States,” Chester said.

Just admit that you don't know why and quite making a fool of yourself by displaying your ignorance.

Tell us ... specifically why they were?

Your copy and paste imitation of Deckard's avoidance limited knowledge technique does nothing but continue to mask your ignorance.

The question still remains: Why were the U.S. Marines guarding the poppy fields?

Because they were told to.

Evidently that was because it was less politically expedient than Napalming
and Bulldozing the crops -- which would've been the morally responsible thing to do; especially given the FACTS regarding how much of that "agricultural" product ends up in American neighborhoods.

Yes, the correctional officers supply emergency medical care to an inmate that's in need until the medical staff arrive within minutes on that particular block... but I don't work the blocks, dumb shit.

I don't respond to medical codes. I'm a little busy for that shit.

You are too slow to really understand. lol

I'm never in a position to administer medical assistance, dip shit. This is why.

I don't work on the blocks. The only time I'm on the block is to search a cell or handle a crime scene. Either way, the uniformed officers get the inmates locked in and tend to ALL THEIR NEEDS, EVEN MEDICAL. I don't even have to touch them when I arrest them. I order a uniformed officer to do it.

Also... if I interview inmates, uniformed officers transport them to my office and stay with them the entire time... they tend to their EVERY need.

I wear a suit and tie. I don't administer medical care, nor am I expected to. I have a very clear understanding with the only person I answer too.

I wouldn't have accepted the job if I had to administer medical care to an inmate, dip shit.
