This awesome gun infographic compares each state’s amount of guns to the entire country that has a similar amount of firepower.

American citizens own a lot of guns. That doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone, but the thing that may surprise you is just how those numbers compare with those of other countries.

The sheer amount of firepower owned in each state is pretty impressive. Find your state on the gun infographic below and see where it stacks up.

The folks over at the Movoto Real Estate Blog did some really interesting research to create this gun infographic. It really is eye-opening to see just how much firepower the different states each have when compared to entire countries. Here are the exact numbers of guns owned in each state. gun infographic Movoto Real Estate Blog

The top three states in gun ownership are California, Texas, and New York and those three states compare to some pretty big countries in firepower. California has almost as many guns as all of China; Texas is comparable with Germany; New York nearly matches Pakistan’s firepower.

These numbers go to show just how important an issue gun ownership truly is in our country. With these sheer numbers, guns and their owners are here to stay. The debate about gun safety laws will continue to rage for a long time.

As presented, the comparison is meaningless bullshit.

For instance, it equates Alabama to Spain because both have a similar amount of total firearms (4.24 million). But it fails to note that the population of Alabama (4.8 million) is only 1/10 that of Spain (46 million).

It doesn't matter if you're pro- or anti- gun control, the comparison is meaningless unless the data is presented on a per capita basis.

True. Also, it does not take into account the TYPES of weapons. But it is still interesting regardless.

Why? Do you expect each state to pick a country and go to war with it?

You'd have to ask Movoto Real Estate Blog about that.
They're the ones who compared states to countries.
I simply pointed out that their comparison is meaningless unless presented on a per capita basis.

Mostly for the numbers they quoted. Good idea to stay abreast of what the other side is saying, even when false.
