Steve Miller Trashes Rock Hall After Induction: 'This Whole Industry F---ng Sucks'

Steve Miller did not leave Friday night's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony -- for which he was included -- feeling good about the whole thing. Rather, quite the opposite.

During his acceptance speech, the rocker called the event a "lazy night" with "a bunch of fat cats" and got even more grouchy after the fact, telling reporters backstage that "the whole process is unpleasant" and it "needs to be changed from the top to the bottom."

10 Unforgettable Moments From Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2016 Induction Ceremony

In an interview with Rolling Stone published Monday (April 11), Miller tripled down on these sentiments and then some. He trashed the ceremony and basically everyone involved, including his own label rep.

"The whole experience should be completely redesigned and become much more artist-friendly," he said. "Starting from who you can invite, what you can do, how long you can play, what you can say. The whole thing is sort of an amateur production and doing this is harder than doing a 20-city tour."

Miller went on, "A hundred thousand phone calls; the contract work. The licensing still isn't signed and isn't complete. Everybody is kind of a dick and an asshole. And every artist you talk to will tell you that. You're lucky that everybody didn't f---ing walk out. It was very, very close."

And then there's the music business as a whole, by which he seemed equally turned off -- if not more.  "All the people that were sitting in the front row tonight, like the guy that came from my record company, I wanted to pull him by his necktie and kick him in the nuts," he said. "He's made a billion dollars off my work over the last 50 years and the motherfucker just came over and introduced himself tonight. That cheery little thing. You know he won't do any contract work, he won't clean anything up, he won't get anything done.

"This whole industry f---ing sucks and this little get-together you guys have here is like a private boys' club and it's a bunch of jackasses and jerks and f---ing gangsters and crooks who've f---ing stolen everything from a f---ing artist. Telling the artist to come out here and tap dance."

What is it with these celebrities (actors, musicians, sports figures, etc) that think we care about this crap? I certainly don't

Their image of self-importance is amazing.

Play your music, cash your check, and shut up.

Well, when it COMES TO THEIR FIELDS,they ARE the ones that create the product. Everyone else in their industries are the blood-sucking leeches that manage it and steal them blind.

Yeah I suppose that's true. But celebrities are no more special than the rest of us - who more than likely work for someone who's ripping our talents off as well.

And few of us have the "fame and fortune" to show for it that a Steve Miller has.

BTW - speaking of blood sucking leeches - the name "Col. Tom Parker" comes to mind. Now to me, Elvis WOULD have had something to complain about.

Do you know of any time Elvis ever publicly complained about Parker?

C'mon, he had a lot of very popular hits. At least a half-dozen very big songs.

Heck, even I know these songs.

Sounds as if Jimmie Boy ran out of margaritas.

When one of his songs comes on the radio, I surf to see what else is on - but I usually come back to Steve. I guess even I don't appreciate him enough.

There were a lot of groups with hits that had less merit than Steve Miller. Some elements of his style set my teeth on edge but he did have talent.

I don't think he was one of the great talents of the era but he wasn't some one-hit wonder either.

I like pretty much all of them better than Steve Miller, the bastige!

I take all the kind things I said about him back.

not saying he doesn't deserve it . But should he go in before Joan Baez ,Joe Cocker ,not to mention some classic early 60s bands like The Marvelettes ?

True, doesn't mean that Miller doesn't have a legitimate case, though. Also, consider that most of us don't work and function under a system that is essentially nothing more than a organized crime syndicate. WE can piss off our bosses and take our work elsewhere. Let them piss off one major label, and nobody will touch them. They have all the creativity and do all the real work, and are lucky to get a penny on the dollars they produce.

BTW - speaking of blood sucking leeches - the name "Col. Tom Parker" comes to mind. Now to me, Elvis WOULD have had something to complain about.

Not a one,but there can be no doubt that he took Elvis from nothing to the biggest star in the world, and that he protected him and paid him well. LOTS of music stars from the 50's and 60's had every dime stolen from them by their record labels and managers, but not Elvis.

What fries my fritters about the R & R Hall of Fame is not only letting rap acts in,but people like Steve Miller, which freezing out acts like the original Marshall Tucker Band.

Not saying that Miller doesn't deserve to be recognized, but there are damn few people that will rate him up there with the MTB.
