Lets face it, America misses George W. Bush. The left misses him because they much enjoyed putting every ounce of their failure and frustration on his shoulders.
Conservatives miss the power and the sense that their President looked out for them. Those in the middle look at Mr. Obamas policies and lack of emotion and realize that GWB wasnt quite the demon he was portrayed to be by the left.
For all of GWBs failures, and there were many, he always came across as a person that liked people. Barack Obama has a distinct dont touch me vibe. It is impossible to imagine a photo of President Obama like the above image of George W. Bush.
The photo is from the 2004 campaign when President Bush stopped to hug a teen who lost her mom on 9/11. Mr. Bush asked the young lady how she was faring as he hugged her. She answered Im OK, to which the President said I can see you have a father who loves you very much. The young ladys Dad replied, I do, Mr. President, but I miss her mother every day. The U.S. press didnt like to focus on moments like this of George W. Bushs humility, but there were many during his eight year tenure.
The press was singularly focused on ousting Bush from Day One. From 2004 on, they were working toward the election of Barack Obama.
Browse the web. You wont be able to find any photos of President Obama genuinely hugging anyone besides other world leaders. They are his equals if you will. Or at least members of his court.
Obama doesnt do emotions. The only time the President seems emotional is when he is basking in his own reflected glory. Myriad campaign rallies come to mind. Id smile, too, if 20,000 people were chanting Ro-man-o, Ro-man-o. People dont trust emotionless beings.
In the end, Mr. Obamas lack of empathy or inability to connect with ordinary people may be what dooms his Presidency to one term.
For this President that may be enough. Being President requires getting your hands a bit dirty. Any man in the street knows that may require some emotion and human contact. That is a task the President seems unwilling or incapable of doing. If that is the case, the reign of Barack Obama will shift from transforming to sad.
Last night the President attempted to attach the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico with his, as yet, failed energy policy (David Stein analyzes this effort in full here). America isnt buying it, Mr. Obamas lack of a genuine huggable moment may have more to do with this failure than the Presidents handlers would like to admit.
