Silence of the lambs, Clarrise... I stick to tomatoes and herbs; although, one year I bought some Silver Queen corn from one of those roadside stands in Delaware. While I was paying, I mentioned to the woman that I loved it so much that I wished I could grow it in my back yard. She told me to wait a minute and when she returned, she gave me a half dozen or so seeds - she took me literally!!! I buy the frozen and will cook up a slice with some potatoes and carmalized onions and sometimes some bacon when I'm the only one eating. When we first bought the house in '94, I transplanted a dwarf peach tree that I had in the back of the old house into one of those Jack Daniels barrels that you could buy @ Home Depot. The peaches had a slight flavor of whiskey to them that year...very funny. I lost that tree in the blizzard of 1996. I bought it when I moved in with Mrs. WAR in '89 and I just kept it in an old toy box there. I yanked it out when we moved and bought the barrel for it. That thing didn't put out a lot of fruit but it put out very good fruit. I fertilized the apricot too late last year it, and it put on some late fruiting spur growth which was killed with the early frost. So no apricots this year. It will be either FLA or NorCal and I look forward to having fruit trees in my yard. My wife's grandfather, about 30 years ago, built a compound down in Naples near I-75. He got several acres and put 6 houses on it for him and his kids - very tight knit family...when they first immigrated after WWII they were deported for being here illegaly...anyway, sadly, they are not long for either living or living unassisted 24/7 so, when that happens, we have first right of refusal on their house [as of now, none of the kids want it]. Most counties allow a modular or trailer.
