EBay's Whitman wins California governor primary SAN FRANCISCO Tue Jun 8, 2010 11:58pm EDTStocks SAN FRANCISCO June 8 (Reuters) - Former eBay Inc (EBAY.O) CEO Meg Whitman, a political novice, has won the Republican nomination for California governor, the Sacramento Bee newspaper, in the state's capital, and television network MSNBC said on Tuesday.
Billionaire Whitman spent some $80 million, mostly her own money, to win the primary against millionaire Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, promising to focus on creating jobs, cutting government spending and "fixing" education.
Early election results showed her ahead more than two to one over Poizner.
She will face off in November against former Governor Jerry Brown, who scared off all serious opposition in the race for the Democratic nomination. (Reporting by Peter Henderson, editing by Anthony Boadle)
