Those who are familiar with this site will recall that the National Rifle Association (NRA) has been on the Seeing Red AZ blogroll since the inception of this website in June 2007. Take a good hard look, because the link will soon be coming down. Yesterday we posted the endorsements U.S. Senate candidate J. D. Hayworth received from former NRA President Bob Corbin and from the Gun Owners of America. Yet the NRA, which has previously referred to John McCain as “one of the premier flag carriers for the enemies of the second amendment,” inexplicably gave McCain their endorsement. In endorsing Hayworth, the Gun Owners of America (GOA) said: “John McCain has gone out of his way to earn the ire of conservatives and gun owners in his 20-plus years as a U.S. Senator from Arizona.” Watch this GOA ad exposing John McCain’s efforts to constrain our First and Second Amendment Rights. Then read what GOA’s Political Victory Fund says about McCain here. This indefensible approval is akin to the shameful endorsement of McCain by Arizona Right to Life (AZRTL) which resulted in members of the board and PAC leaving the organization and calling the endorsement of McCain an “egregious affront.” AZRTL acknowledged that J.D. Hayworth “had a perfect pro-life voting record during his service in the U.S. House of Representatives,“ but it was evident McCain’s financial support via buying tables at events meant more. ARTL said the determining factors in their endorsement decision were “incumbency and electability,“ both political considerations — neither of which incorporate the fundamental principle of protection of the unborn. And the equally hypocritical NRA? Here is their July 20, 2001 First Freedom magazine cover story and accompanying article titled, What’s Happened to John McCain? The tag-line accompanying the damning photo of him with Democrats Chuck Schumer and Joe Lieberman accuses John McCain of “jeopardizing the freedom of law-abiding gun owners.”

No surprise. The NRA thinks its backing the eventual winner. Just another example of why I dropped my membership back around 89 or 90. Like it or not, barring some really huge meltdown, McCain will win reelection. And of course immediately after he'll drop any pretense of being a 'conservative'.
For approximately 72K, BP Oil bought Owe-bama. And as President, he let them Spill, Baby, Spill! Its documented.
I became a life member back around '94 however I wouldn't be a member today and most all of their solicitations go directly to the incinerator. I could renounce my membership I suppose but they could really careless and I'm actually costing them money by remaining. I do enjoy most of the monthly "american hunter" magazine they send.
Never swear "allegiance" to anything other than the 'right to change your mind'!

FYI: Juan Hernandez is the same man that arranged private meetings between (then) Gov. George W. Bush and Mexican President Vicent Fox in 1996 in MEXICO CITY. He was also John McCain's chief adviser on Mexican affairs in McCain's last bid for the president, and would have carried over nicely into McCain's amnesty had he won it.

The NRA has been infiltrated. I quit the NRA when Heston endorsed Prop 10 (TAX TOBACCO) in CA and sided with Rob Reiner, the ultra-liberal. Heston was an actor. He ACTED conservative, but was a flaming liberal AFAIWC. Since then, I've received two letters from the NRA, with the EXACT SAME WORDING, from TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE from the NRA trying to spin Heston's choice, and beg for my money back. Burn in hell Heston, and fuck off NRA.

You obviously didn't know much about that posing asshole. WHILE he was president of the NRA he went on Rosie O'Donnels tv show and stated that "I hate AK-47's and see no reason why people should be allowed to own them." He was also for the so-called assault weapons ban and saying so in media interviews,and this was WHILE he was the NRA president and the effort was afloat to overturn it. Heston was your man if your interest in guns was solely towards collectable muskets and trap or skeet guns. Other than that he sucked. Heston was pro-gun like Benedict Arnold was pro-American. He was Wayne Pierre's personal bitch that Wayne put in there to be his puppet when he could no longer be the NRA President. BTW,I have been a member of the NRA off and on since 1957,and have been a Life Member since the 70's. The NRA exists solely to get donations. They are like McLunatic and other hypocritical politicians who will say anything they need to say to get your vote. The NRA will say and do anything they have to do to get your donations. When donations start drying up and membership starts shrinking,they suddenly get all righteous about defending the 2nd Amendment. Once the storm passes,they are right back to sucking up to whatever politician is in office and slyly pushing for more gun control. They do this because NOTHING brings in the cash like new gun laws. Overturn the GCA of 1968 and they are suddenly virtually out of business. Hell,the NRA helped WRITE GCA-68!

The NRA hasn't been credible in years. Most people who are really concerned with the 2nd amendment join Gun Owners of America.
