The White House responded to Newsradio 780's inquiry and issued this statement, "Rahm Emanuel has owned his home in Chicago for 11 years and has always paid his obligations promptly. He never received this particular bill, but today, the moment it was brought to his attention, he paid it in-full immediately."

(1 image)CHICAGO (WBBM) -- White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel was three months behind on his property tax payments until Newsradio 780 brought it to his attention.. SEE THE TAX BILL FROM TREASURER'S WEBSITE
Rahm Emanuel and his wife accumulated a $445.56 penalty for the payment delay on their four-bedroom Ravenswood home. On March 2, when property taxes were due, Emanuel owed about $7400.
Governor Pat Quinn, by the way, is up to date on his property taxes.
And Rahm Emanuel's boss - the President of the United States? Also up to date.
The treasurer's office says not quite 13.5 percent of homeowners in Cook County are delinquent on their taxes - up only slightly from previous years.

My taxes get paid quarterly out of escrow. I get delinquent notices twice a year because of how NY bills and my escrow pays. Ditto my homeowner's insurance. Travellers wants it in December, escrow pays it in January. Pain in the ass. Ask Boofer, he knows...being the piece of chickenshit that he is, he once posted on LP that I was delinquent one quarter.

Purchase taxes are constitutional. Ownership taxes are not. Once you buy it and pay taxes on the purchase price, you've paid your tax. Is there any REAL property ownership if your property is confiscated if you refused to pay perpetual property taxes on something you already own and have already been taxed on?

Property taxes go back a couple milleniums at least. You're talking about a revolt that started 40 years ago. You'd have no roads, schools, sewage, water plants etc etc etc without perpetual taxation. The founders sure weren't shy about taxing property.

I think it would be best if they could find a way to fund things without taxing property. I have some problems with that form of taxation. Being the tax expert that I am. In the sense that some people aren't tax evaders, just tax avoiders. But that's another subject.

What makes sense to me is to get the bees at the nest and not in the field. I can tell you how you can kill the immigration "problem" in one easy lesson. Require all businesses to report the names and SS#'s of their employees to local authorities. Further subject them to report their job site locations. Subject them to spot checks of employees on their job site locations. One of two things will happen...you'll take a HUGE bite out of the immigration "problem" or you'll increase income taxes.

Forcing the REAL ID ACT is the place to start. It makes hiring an illegal alien a felony. Essentially, this law is already in effect, it is simply not being enforce. Eliminating the drain on our public services by illegal aliens will strop a tremendous drain on the tax dollar (incarceration, public schools, welfare, housing, hospitalization). The question is do you want to merge with Mexico or not?
