Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Bush have done more damage in 6 years than any administration in U.S. history. Sadly this is no exagerration. The Republican Party should pay the price in the Nov. elections for nominating such an incompetent President.

Thanks...As a U.S. Citizen living in Canada it sickens me to see what is happening to America. The Bush administration and its propaganda minister Limbaugh convey a sense of arrogance like I've never seen. Collectively they are a bunch of phonies who had the gall to think they could handle the Presidency.

I'm not a traditional conservative. To be honest I don't know what I am. On the one hand i can say that i think that the people who protested the Vietnam war had alot more balls than the architects of that war while on the other hand I think that leftist liberals have morally bankrupted America by ridiculing and defying the traditional values that define America.

Rumsfeld visits Vietnam to boost military ties

Rumsfeld said another US Navy ship will visit Vietnam this summer. Under the Pentagon’s International Military Education and Training (IMET) programme, Vietnamese pilots will go to the United States for English-language training. He said the United States was not seeking access to military facilities in Vietnam.

“We do have an evolving military-to-military relationship. Vietnam is an important country and they’re a country that we value our relationship with, but it certainly isn’t anything that involves military basing,” he told reporters in Singapore. Vietnam, a member of the 10-country Association of Southeast Asian Nations, will play host to US President George W Bush at this year’s annual summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, a key economic grouping.

Last week, US and Vietnamese officials signed a pact that paves the way for Hanoi to join the World Trade Organisation by year-end. The deal requires Vietnam to cut tariffs and other barriers on a host of American goods and services.

While I don't think Rumsfeld is going anywhere, I have to agree that our position in the world just in the past 2 years has been greatly diminished and our credibility tattered and ruined, thanks to this administration.

We need to reconcile with the world community and do some serious apologising to the Iraqi people and to our grandchildren for leaving them a world of fear and destruction, all because our hearts ran too fast. And we must promise that we eschew our tendency to be uncritical of our leaders and our country's policies.

Our new foreign policy going forward (or at least for the next administration, whoever that may be) should be one of thoughtfulness and reconciliation, not of incuriosity, jingoism, speculation and aggression.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/06/04/haditha/index.html?section=cnn_latest

Biden told NBC's "Meet the Press" that the accountability for Haditha and other alleged atrocities in Iraq should go all the way up to Rumsfeld. (Watch Rumsfeld's critics fueled by Haditha incident -- 2:17)

"We can't get rid of the president; he's there for two-and-a-half more years," Biden said. "There is a system of accountability. ... When you make serious mistakes, you step forward and you acknowledge them and you walk away.

"Presidents can't and shouldn't do that. Secretaries of defense can and should."

Biden said Rumsfeld "should be be gone; he shouldn't be in his office tomorrow morning."

A frequent critic of the Bush administration's policy in Iraq, Biden has previously called for Rumsfeld's resignation.

Retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste, who led the 1st Infantry Division in northern Iraq in 2004-2005, on Sunday also called for "a secretary of defense whose instinct and judgment we all trust."

Batiste told CNN's "Late Edition" he sees "a direct link between Haditha, the national embarrassment of Abu Ghraib, going on four years now of uncontrollable chaos in Iraq, with the bad judgment, poor decisions of our secretary of defense back in late 2003 and 2004."

"We went in under-resourced, overcommitted. And the strain on the force is unbelievable," Batiste said.

Batiste was one of several retired generals to publicly call for Rumsfeld's resignation in recent months. Responding to their calls, President Bush in April defended Rumsfeld, saying he was doing "a fine job." (Full story)

Good to have you on the Forum, patriot, however...

"I have to agree that our position in the world just in the past 2 years has been greatly diminished and our credibility tattered and ruined, thanks to this administration."

I couldn't disagree more...sure, the last five years have been tumultuous, but that is becuz we are doing what needs to be done to confront Islamofascism. Osama bin Laden and his cohorts hated America and what we stand for long before Dubyuh started fighting back. As for our position in the world, America remains a beacon of freedom and hope, and as the fledging democracy in Iraq takes root and the Iraqi people begin to reap the rewards of liberty and self- determination, America's efforts will be credited with making the Mideast a safer, more vibrant region.

"And we must promise that we eschew our tendency to be uncritical of our leaders and our country's policies."

Woah there, patriot, I don't see where being critical of our leaders has ever been that much of a problem in this country...and it certainly ain't stopping a lot of folks from criticizing the heck outta this POTUS.

Well, I've seen some pictures of what our troops did, and I have a hard time seeing the difference between that and what the Nazis did. The Abu Ghraib revelations are what set me against the war and my fellow conservatives in the first place. I felt like I was taken by a confidence scam and the that war was not really about liberation at all. :(

Two years along, I think I'm right in my suspicions... :|

"Congress should not be passing federal legislation to allow gay marriage?"

At present, the debate is about a Constitutional Amendment, which is the way change is supposed to occur, as compared to overriding the Constitution with an activist Judiciary.

now that we're there, we cannot afford to cut and run

So if 72% of the troops wanted out within 9 months, you would have a problem with that?

And how is that not invading every nook and cranny of our society?

This is why the judiciary -- and Congress -- should remain as balanced and impartial as possible, so these encroachments on the minority's freedoms can be avoided.

"...if 72% of the troops wanted out within 9 months"

The troops don't make these decisions, my friend...in any event, the drawdown of troops from Iraq will continue to proceed this fall and winter. Rumor is that troops strengths will be reduced from its present 140K to under 100K by the first of the year.

Balanced? What's that mean? In any event, the judiciary should maintain a steadfast non-partisan bias, but the Congress is by definition "partial" to given ideologies, as they should be.

"...these encroachments on the minority's freedoms can be avoided."

Which "minority freedoms" have been encroached?

Last I checked (ten seconds ago, on C-SPAN2), the rights of a certain minority in this country are being encroached upon...and by a non-balanced, thoughtless cross-section of the Republican party. It's sad.

Puh-LEEEZE!! Marriage is the holy matrimony between one man and one woman for the furtherance of creating a family unit to bear the next generation. That's just what "marriage" is, and the gays oughtta just git over it. If they want to pledge their undying love for their partner and exercise certain legal provisions similar to those that married folks have, more power to them, but it ain't a "marriage"...call it a "coupling" or whatever, but it ain't marriage...MUD

No, they are asking for special rights...if a man--any man--wants to get married, all they need to do is find a willing lass. But two men or two women cannot be married, by definition.

Do you believe brothers should be allowed to marry their sisters? How about fathers marrying their daughters?

You just can't go changing the definition of, arguably, the most successful institution out there without beginning down a very slippery slope.

Sen. Susan Collins (news, bio, voting record), R-Maine, said the military should swiftly "get to the bottom of what happened and how it was investigated" and suggested that Rumsfeld, himself, should answer questions such as when he learned of the allegations and what actions he took thereafter.

I never said I want brothers to marry sisters, or fathers to marry daughters. I said I want no American's right to life, liberty and happiness to be encroached upon by the government, whether that be the Congress or the Courts.

I would be equally upset if it were the activist Courts trying to remove gay men's and gay women's rights. Today it just happens to be Congress acting like thoughtless fools.

I am heartened in the fact that nothing will come of this.

Politically, the alleged murders in Haditha — as well as unsubstantiated claims of unprovoked civilian deaths by U.S. troops elsewhere in Iraq — threaten to further drag down support for the Iraq war and could turn into a political problem for President Bush and Republicans five months before congressional elections. Polls show voters increasingly uncomfortable with the direction of the war as well as more inclined to see Democrats leading Congress.

Genesis 19 (New International Version)

12 The two men said to Lot, "Do you have anyone else here—sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here, 13 because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the LORD against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it."

14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry [a] his daughters. He said, "Hurry and get out of this place, because the LORD is about to destroy the city!" But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.

15 With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished."

That appears to be the Conventional Wisdom, but I'm not so sure...if it was gonna be so easily-defeated, why are the RATS so exercised about debating it on the Senate floor?

Lot and His Daughters

30 Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let's get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father." 33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, "Last night I lay with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father." 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

36 So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father. 37 The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab [g] ; he is the father of the Moabites of today. 38 The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi [h] ; he is the father of the Ammonites of today.

There is no such thing as queer marriage. Everyone is treated equally under the law. Any man and woman couple may get married.

As long as "queers" can get the same benefits that married heterosexual couples can get, I see no problem with calling it something else, if it will be viewed fairly under the law.
