The Preakness Stakes Post Position Draw for 2010 took place on Wed. May 12.

The draw was determined by a traditional "pill pull" in which horses' entry blanks are pulled simultaneously with a numbered pill to determine which stall a horse is assigned in the starting gate.

Here is the official Preakness Stakes Draw.

Here are the horses (along with their jockeys, trainers) for the Preakness Stakes Post Position Draw in alphabetical order:

1. Aikenite (Javier Castellano, Todd Pletcher , 20-1)

2. Schoolyard Dreams (Coa, Derek Ryan, 15-1)

3. Pleasant Prince (Julien Leparoux, Wesley Ward, 20-1)

4. Northern Giant (Terry Thompson, D. Wayne Lukas, 30-1)

5. Yawanna Twist (Rick Dutrow, Edgar Prado, 30-1)

6. Jackson Bend (Mike Smith, Nick Zito, 12-1)

7. Lookin At Lucky (Martin Garcia, Bob Baffert, 3-1)

8.. Super Saver (Calvin Borel, Todd Pletcher, 5-2)

9. Caracortado (Paul Atkinson, Mike Machowsky, 10-1)

10. Paddy O Prado (Kent Desormeaux, Dale Romans, 9-2)

11. First Dude (Ramon Dominguez, Romans, 20-1)

12. Dublin (Garrett Gomez, Lukas, 10-1)

Here's the worst part, the Draw wasn't available that I could find on TV or Radio. The race is at Pimlico and the Draw was at Laurel.

MD racing is dying, Stronach's Magna Entertainment (track owner) is on life support.

Diamond Sportsbook just called and offered to match a $100 deposit with another $100. Not exactly a confidence builder in their business model.

1. I was down near the city (Baltimore) and did a "drive-by" on Victory Racing Plate, one of the last horseshoe manufacturers. They're still in the building. Don't know if they make synthetic shoes yet.

2. Forgot to post a couple of weeks ago about the horse who lost the Triple Crown not long ago because he stopped in the Stretch at the Belmont. I think it was Big Brown. There's a Youtube video of his shoe coming loose on his right rear and it's clearly visible on the small screen.

3. I started driving past the U of Penn New Bolton Center back in the '70s. Nice back roads and they saved a filly I saw break down at Pimlico. Went past many times after Barbaro went there, there could be a small traffic jam at the gate gawking at the signs, dropping off carrots.

Should be a good race, we had frost yesterday morning but I look for good weather for the big race. I just hope the track doesn't have a bias.

Good luck to all.

Looking at Lucky won by 3/4 over First Dude followed by Jackson Bend. Super Saver looked good for about a mile but faded to finish 8th...no gas in the tank at the end.

The young winning jockey, Martin Garcia, accomplished quite a feat and he probably doesn't even realize it yet. I read an article about him yesterday - he is only 25 and started working with horses at age 19. At first he didn't know what the Triple Crown was.

Sorry, I just found your post two minutes ago. I had a whopping $2 place bet on the winner. I have to bet with CD - twinspires.com to get my $3 Ultimate PPs for free. Lousy card, didn't inspire me for any other bets.

I checked out Martin Garcia leading up to the race. Young and a comer, and they aren't coming to Pimlico for training like Desomeaux, Prado, McCarron and others used to.

May be near the last year for Pimlico to even be run at Old Hilltop. But I said that in the late '90s too when the electric went out big time on the only day that keeps them profitable.

The Belmont Stakes isn't generating a whole lot of interest other than the usual horsemen.

I've been reading that the NYRA is screaming for $$ from NY state and are saying that racing after the Belmont Stakes is in serious jeopardy in NY.

Churchill Downs is only racing 4 days a week during the Spring Meet. The horse racing industry isn't looking like the future is bright. I think I'll retire as part-owner after our colt shows whether he's got it or not.

In a nutshell here are way too many tracks, and too few horses. The fields are too small. Back in the eighties you were lucky a horse could make the also list on it's first try. First time I entered my colt there were 58 other entries at Pleasanton. It took three tries before he made a race. Now there are tracks galore and shipping is so easy.

I think the recent depression and current recession has lots to do with it too. Breeders cut back, auctions suffered, folks started holding onto their wallets, etc. I hope it turns around sometime soon.

The IRS also makes a horse farm show a profit at least two in seven or else it's declared a hobby.

When Zayatt Stables declared bankruptcy, in December I think, that was a real eye opener to me. Our previous trainer may have had some financial troubles...we think we were his meal ticket. I'm very impressed with our new one...since April 15th. Our colt is getting over some sort of Strep virus right now...he shouldn't lose much fitness. The trainer says that stress can help cause that. I don't doubt him, but we're another few weeks behind schedule. You know the deal.

Strep is bacterial so at least ABTs should be effective. Stress, crowding and being around horses from all over the country are the big causes.

I had a colt with a chronic stomach ulcer, before they knew what caused ulcers in horses (the same as in humans). We pumped gallons of Pepto down that poor guy.
