Just a couple of days ago, the New York Times had this: White House Memo: Shadow of Katrina Hangs Over Official Response to Spill. Other outlets call the spill Obama's Katrina. I disagree. It isn't Obama's Katrina, it's worse. You see, when the media crucified Bush for FEMA's response, or lack thereof, what they left out was that the New Orleans tragedy was the fault of the Louisiana governor who refused federal assistance, and the impotent Ray Nagin who left buses standing unused in the parking lots. My take on the oil spill is that it is different than Katrina in that a single city or state isn't affected here (Katrin a hit Mississippi too but that was dropped down the memory hole long ago). There is no governor out there or a mayor that is refusing to do his job. Nope. This is what is being called an environmental calamity that will affect the entire gulf region. It is a federal issue from beginning to end. To make things worse, the Obama administration approved that very drilling where the oil platform exploded. It's all on him, and his reaction to the spill makes Katrina - a natural disaster - pale by comparison. So bad has Obama;'s response been that even far-left hack Bill Maher is complaining.
