White House spokesman Robert Gibbs dismisses criticism that the oil spill off the Gulf Coast is President Obama’s Hurricane Katrina, noting, “More than 1,800 people died in Katrina.”
“The notion that somehow we’re playing catch-up is badly misinformed,” Gibbs added.
He repeated what other administration sources have said about the administration’s drilling policy: That no oil leases for new exploration areas in the Atlantic will be issued until the Gulf spill is reviewed.
“We’ve got a review process that will determine how we go forward,” Gibbs said of both the Gulf spill and future licenses for Atlantic drilling.
