Fifteen months into the reign of President Barack Obama, who promised to restore trust and civility to government, and Americans apparently aren't getting his message. An exhaustive Pew Center survey finds that a record 78 percent of Americans don't trust government, and feel it has gotten too big and too powerful.
No wonder. Obama has expanded the government by one-third so far, with plans to grow it even more on the drawing board. Americans just witnessed one of the most arrogant displays of political power ever in Obama's cramming through of his health care bill by any means necessary.
Taxes are set to go up substantially, as are deficits, and more than $1 trillion on spending to stimulate the economy and stop foreclosures hasn't accomplished either goal. What's there to trust?
The good news for Obama is that the rest of the world loves what he's doing.
A new survey by GlobalScan/PIPA finds the United States' negative rating has declined markedly since Obama took office.
Of course, this is the same poll that ranks the democratic Israel nearly the same as it does Iran and North Korea.
