Bishop Thomas Wenski was named the new head of the Catholic Church in Miami Tuesday. He gave a farewell press conference Wednesday morning. He spoke with WDBO about his 7 years in Orlando, and said many tears would be shed. The Bishop plans to keep fighting for immigration reform once he reaches South Florida. Wenski asked 'how can people go back to where they came from to stand in line when there is no line?' "They say 'Well what part of illegal don't you understand?' but what most people don't understand is that being undocumented in this country is not a crime. It's not a felony. It's a misdemeanor at best, and when we commit misdemeanors, and I think all of you have at one time or another, I did a couple of weeks ago, when I got a parking ticket. I paid the fine! Most of these immigrants would be willing to pay the fine."
Wenski said he hopes the next head of Orlando's Catholic Church will reap the benefits of a big fundraising drive, and a remodeled downtown cathedral.
