Robert McCartney, the liberal Washington Post columnist, has done something that Chris Matthews and his fellow leftist MSNBC hosts have yet to do: attend a tea party rally without being confrontational and/or snarky. McCartney went to a tea party with an open mind last week and this is what he discovered: I went to the "tea party" rally at the Washington Monument on Thursday to check out just how reactionary and potentially violent the movement truly was. Answer: Not very. Based on what I saw and heard, tea party members are not seething, ready-to-explode racists, as some liberal commentators have caricatured them. I was wondering when liberal democrats would begin to realize suggesting the Tea Party types are 1)racists...2)bigots...3)unhinged crazies...4)domestic terrorists in waiting....was backfiring. As we approach November, watch as the Democrats try to make nice with this huge voting block. All they want is the Federal Government to operate within its finanical 'means' and lower taxation. That pretty much it. That said, given the demographics...they won't forget the past 15 months or so where all kinds of denigrative comments from the Left have been hurled at them. They will show up, and vote their anger, which is bordering on rage at this point. They are intelligent, fairly well off, and most importantly 'most likely to vote'.
