ShareThis| Respond to Editor | Print By Nick Godt MarketWatch Pulse NEW YORK -- Crude oil futures briefly topped $85 a barrel on Thursday, as news of a drop in U.S. joblessness added to earlier optimism about the global economy. Earlier, reports on Chinese and European manufacturing, and an upbeat survey of business sentiment in Japan combined to lift crude oil futures above $84 a barrel. In recent action, crude oil for May delivery gained $1.06, or 1.3%, to $84.82 a barrel in electronic trading on Globex. The contract reached an intraday high of $85.07 a barrel minutes earlier.
