* EXCLUSIVE: Shot Fired at House Minority Whip Cantor's Richmond Office

FOX has learned that the Richmond, VA campaign office of House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) was shot at Monday.

Cantor, is the highest-elected Jewish official in the country and the only Jewish Republican in the House.

As a member of the House leadership, U.S. Capitol Police provide Cantor with a security detail around the clock. But FOX has learned that Cantor was one of about ten lawmakers Thursday who asked for enhanced protection after a spate of threats were. Most of the threats were directed at House Democrats who voted in favor of the health care reform bill over the weekend.

The Department of Homeland Security is involved in the Cantor case because he is a member of the House leadership.

Wednesday, Capitol Police Chief Phil Morse, House Sergeant-at-Arms Bill Livingood and FBI officials met with House Democrats behind closed doors Wednesday to discuss security measures.

FOX has also obtained a threatening message left Friday on the voicemail of Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-OH). This is believed to be the first threat against a Republican member. The message contained racial overtones and profane language.

FOX has learned

Ahhh, I see how it is.

When it suits your purpose, THEN you cite Fox as a source.

I use sources from everywhere.

I'll take your word for it and retract what I wrote.

You do admit that most on your side of the fence don't consider Fox legitimate, right?

But I made an assumption, and I should have known better.

I don't have a "side of the fence". I'm appalled by the actions of both sides.

It's just that now the Republican side appears to have crossed over into complete lunatic territory, starting with the birthers and continuing on with the death threats and calling for armed insurrection because they didn't get their way.

You don't at least LEAN to one side? Look - it's okay. I'll admit I lean to the right on most issues, but there are a couple issues in which I am on the left.

But I too am appalled by some of the actions by extremists on both sides. While I understand the frustration those on the right (myself included) are feeling now - starting with the unanswered Congressional phones, closed town-meetings, and general unresponsiveness of those who are supposed to be public-servants.

Who the hell do they think they are. Our rulers?

I understand the frustration, but I can never condone violence. Though I will understand it if and when it occurs.

I honestly don't think that's the case. The reason it appears that way is because the roles are reversed. The information sources that we trust cover seemingly similar situations very differently - depending on their slant.

For instance - "Birthers" are an element of the right who say that Obama is a usurper. But in 2000 because of the controversial election, you had just as significant an element on the left who said Bush was a usuper.

Hell - here it is, ten years later, and there is a certain poster (who I won't name since he's on my bozzo) who will go bat shit crazy at the mere mention of Bush and 2000.

Perhaps it's best for those of us center-right and center-left to try to find some common ground. And leave the extremists to the - well - extremes.

Believe it or not, I voted for Bush in 2000. 2004 too.

But after that I went Independent (thank Bush for that) and didn't vote for anybody for pres in 2008.
