Title: Rove: ‘Largely Unsophisticated People' At Tea Party Rallies

Democrats are sometimes accused of being elitists who look down on honest working folk, but former White House senior adviser Karl Rove appears to harbor a certain condescension of his own towards "unsophisticated" Tea Partiers.

MSBC's Savannah Guthrie questioned Rove on Wednesday about the "unfortunate language used this weekend at some of the rallies that one of the Tea Party founders apologized for."

"To the extent that the Tea Party is equated with the Republican Party, is that a concern for you?" she asked.

"This Tea Party movement is largely novices, relatively politically unsophisticated people, and as a result sometimes their rhetoric is raw and angry," Rove replied. "That's the downside."

"The upside," he continued, "is that a large number of people who have heretofore been spectators have been motivated by a deep concern about our country to get involved in politics."

Rove went on to excuse the violent rhetoric of the Tea Partiers by suggesting that "if you look back at the beginning of other similar movements, whether it's the anti-war movement or the civil rights movement or the pro-life movement, there are angry things said that I suspect in retrospect a lot of people realize are unfortunate and unnecessary."

Rove did not offer any examples, however, and he appears to be misinformed about the atmosphere that existed in the early days of the civil rights movement.

The 1950s and early 60s were marked by a pervasive climate of lynchings and racial violence, in which fourteen-year-old Emmett Till could be brutally murdered for not following his mother's advice to "mind his manners" with white people and even white volunteers like Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner, might be kidnapped and killed (dramatized in the 1988 film Mississippi Burning). As a result, the early civil rights leaders and protesters were known for their politeness and adherence to non-violence in both their words and actions.

Even while being beaten and clubbed by police and irate drug store employees, civil rights protesters had to remain non-violent and compliant, since the alternative could have resulted in lengthy jail sentences, permanent injuries, or death.

Interesting stuff about Rove.

I'd post a comment and engage you further on it, but you seem to post articles and then respond only to those who agree with you. If I'm incorrect, and you DO wish to further comment on it, I'll be here.

relatively politically unsophisticated people

...and the problem with this accurate statement is...what, exactly?

They are 'politically unsophisticated'. Hence the term 'grass roots'.

Sheesh....its amusing you want to pretend its an insult to the Tea Party members. They wear it as a badge of honor, you dumbass.

Brian S: "relatively politically unsophisticated people"

Politically unsophisticated, what is that? I've heard of 'politically ignorant', even 'uneducated politically'...but what does 'unsophisticated' mean...politically that is?

Come back Brian S, I'd like to see your explanation on this, then I'll tell you what I think.

Your question is better addressed to Rove. He made the statement, not I.

LOL..Rove? But of course, he's a polititian, that explains his ignorance when using the word 'sophisticated'...now, if you don't mind, where do you stand on his statement? Then I'll address his!

No, it's not on the part of the person it's being aimed at, but the person using such a statement, thinking they are insulting the public sure isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer...lol

Zactly...at best over reaching in an attempt to show a insult where none was offered toward a grass roots organization thats only now realizing its true power nationally.

So in your world does a poster have to agree with everything stated in an article they post?

No.

Try to follow along here.

BS posts a lot of articles. Rarely, however, does he comment one way or the other. It seems (to me, anyway) that in those few instances when he DOES comment it is to say somehting pithy like "indeed" to a poster - in agreement.

It is of course up to him if he wants to post one article after another - and comment on few of them. That does provide a service (kind of like Drudge, I suppose). Makes LP a one-stop news center.

But since this is a discussion board, I was simply inviting him to discuss . . .

Excuse me Rove, but you can take your kind of 'politics' and stick it where the sun don't shine. We will do our damnedest to take this nation back by ballot box, it's the only right thing to do right now, we will do all we can to come together and run all of you no-good, corrupt theives out of office..for good, and it would be in yours, and your comrades best interest to listen to what the people are saying, not what a handful of idiots are doing, or those who are lying to make us look bad, listen to the people, and you will hear the truth, it might not be as financially rewarding, but it would be the smartest thing you ever did.

"Politically Unsophisticated ~ Rove

If you put the two words together, "Politically" and "Unsophisticated" and do a search, all you will find is what some dem-headed lefty thinks on some obscure internet forum.

Anyway!

If todays protesting patriots are any indication they are what Rove called them, "Politically Unsophisticated", then they are among GREAT people in our history, they are the GRASS ROOTS of this nation, and though they may not have been, or were..cough..cough, as 'politically sophisticated', or even educated, as their elected officials, they were smart enough to know a tyrantical and corrupt government when they saw one. Even Horatio Bunce, a lowely, uneducated farmer in 1826 was smart enough to know when his money was being taken and used where he did not want it to be used, and he even said so to the person who supposedly represented his interest in Washington, most of you who know who Bunce was, then you know who his representative was.

Our ancestors didn't have TV, radio, or even the internet that we take for granted today, and some areas didn't even have a newspaper, but they were smart enough to band together, those ignorant, uneducated, sloppy, uncouth, "politically unsophisticated" rag-tags, and they declared a REVOLUTION, against a tryrantical KING who lived across an ocean, and they fought this REVOLUTION right here, on their own soil.

Well, the KING isn't across any ocean today, he's right here, sitting in OUR White House, he, this Kenyan born Usurper (prove me wrong), and all his loyal followers have declared WAR with every American who refuses to follow his DICTATES, SOCIALIST Bills, signed by him, and his executive orders, and he has an army to back up any and all resistance to his wishes.

Minutemen and patriots were once thought of as hero's, even by our government, but not anymore, today they have been branded, "TERRORISTS", and "ENEMY COMBATANTS" because they are being forced to do the jobs our elected officials refuse to do, protect this nation against all foreign and domestic enemies, preserve our liberties and freedoms.

Forgive me please, I did not mean to rant, I love this nation and it's people, but I honestly believe it's going to take a bloody WAR to take her back, we will have to hit rock bottom before we ever see the top again, G-d help us all!

Most of the Revolution was fought in and around major trade centers or outposts [Saratoga/West Point/Great Canebrake] and it most certainly was conceived and initiated by a quite sophisticated and well educated group.
