For the last decade or so, media reports have emphasized an ongoing "epidemic of violence" against trans-identifying people in the United States. Each year, the Human Rights Campaign compiles a list of deaths of transgender or "gender-expansive" people. It’s a familiar story, a list of names with minimal context, typically describing murders of people who identify as transgender in some way, but not murdered due to being transgender. As described by Tori Cooper, HRC Director of Strategic Outreach and Training, “…this plague of violence is robbing us of so much; so many dear friends and loved ones gone too soon, especially Black trans women who continue to bear the worst of this epidemic.” The narrative has been clear, as we witnessed back in 2019 during a CNN discussion on LGBT issues with Democratic candidates when a trans activist, Blossom Brown, famously interrupted the event, shouting, “Black trans women are being killed in this country, and you have erased trans women for the last time!” Another audience member demanded, “We are hunted. Systematically hunted. How can they do that?” As the continued rhetoric escalated, trans activists became more and more vocal in their accusations. Even now, claims of a "genocide" against trans people are being endlessly repeated across LGBTQ media. As can be expected, the relentless cries of targeting, being hunted, and even a full genocide have radicalized activists, as detailed by journalist Andy Ngo in the growing and extremely violent Transtifa movement. It is no wonder that conservatives have noticed a growing pattern of trans-identifying people engaging in politically motivated mass shootings, and why the mainstream media is doing everything possible to downplay the concern. If you Google "murders by transgender people" and "murders of transgender people," you get the same results: a list of articles claiming a dramatic ongoing increase in violence against transgender people. AI is quick to point out that shootings by transgender people are extremely rare, while emphasizing the heightened concern surrounding murders of transgender people. If you ask Google more explicitly for reports on mass shootings by transgender people, you’ll receive a list of scolding articles "debunking" the "myth" of a growing concern of violence by trans activists. The counterargument is straightforward: Only a small percentage of mass shootings are committed by transgender people; the vast majority are committed by non-trans white males. However, the argument itself isn’t about volume, but frequency and motivation. To provide a clear baseline, I have personally investigated all reported murders of trans-identifying people in the U.S. since 2015, most listed by LGBTQ organizations and other databases, and organized the research into a single database. I call it the Transgender Hate Crime Research Project, which focuses on only the confirmed, publicly available facts surrounding each reported murder. From this, we can see trends in the actual deaths, averaging around 31 per year, since 2015. Between 2015 and 2025, there were 16 confirmed fatal hate crimes. Hate crimes in this context involve cases in which the additional charge was added to the overall charges or where the motive for the killing was explicitly focused on the gender identity of the victim. A few important insights from the facts in comparison to the narrative include the reality that while the majority of victims are black transwomen, as stated in the above quotes, greater than 90 percent of their killers are also black. The most frequent known reasons for overall reported murders are domestic violence, altercations, sex work, and robberies. It’s important to note that LGBTQ sources do not distinguish between a murder by a boyfriend or spouse with a hate crime motive. In fact, the lists of murders, often simply added up to a total in headlines, include suicides, random shootings, encounters with the police, and even car accidents. One important detail is frequently ignored as well: around 10 cases involve a trans-identifying killer, including multiple examples of murder-suicides of trans romantic couples. Deaths have occurred due to fights between trans sex workers, for example. LGBTQ activists simply include them all under a single banner of violence against transgender people. As for hate crimes, the majority involve a young man reacting violently to a sex partner after discovering he is male. Targeted hate crimes, or transgender people being "hunted," simply are not happening. In comparison, between 2018 and 2025, there have been five mass shooters who identified as trans, killing 17 people, mostly children, and two targeting Christian settings. These include: Snochia Moseley (transgender woman): September 20, 2018, Aberdeen, Maryland (Rite Aid warehouse). 3 killed, 3 injured. Shooter died by suicide. Maya (Alec) McKinney (transgender man): May 7, 2019, Highlands Ranch, Colorado (STEM School). 1 killed, 8 injured. Anderson Lee Aldrich (nonbinary, sometimes categorized under trans- identifying): November 19, 2022, Colorado Springs, Colorado (Club Q nightclub). 5 killed, 19 injured. Audrey (Aiden) Hale (transgender man): March 27, 2023, Nashville, Tennessee (Covenant School). 6 killed (3 children, 3 adults), shooter killed by police. Robin Westman (transgender woman): August 27, 2025, Minneapolis, Minnesota (Annunciation Catholic Church). 2 killed (both children), 18 injured. Other trans-identifying killers include: Dana Rivers (transgender woman), who killed a lesbian couple and their son due to resentment over not being included in a women’s motorcycle club. Andrew (Andrea) Balcer (transgender woman), who was 17 when he killed his parents and his dog due to lack of family support for his transition. Harvey Marcelin (aka Marceline Harvey) (transgender woman), a serial killer who murdered two female partners. Most recently, Robert Dorgan (aka Roberta Esposito) (transgender woman), who murdered his ex-wife and child and then himself, was fueled by personal grievances and rage related to his gender identity. Based on these few cases alone, trans-identifying killers have taken 25 lives; in addition, at least 10 trans-identifying people have been killed by trans-identifying people. In two mass shootings, anti- Christian bias was the clear motivation, making these explicit hate crimes. We also cannot forget that the man who allegedly assassinated Charlie Kirk in politically-motivated, explicitly LGBTQ violence, Tyler Robinson, acted out of an irrational need to protect his transgender partner from perceived threats by Kirk’s arguments on trans issues. The argument is not whether more transgender people kill in mass shootings or if they represent a greater threat to the public in shootings. The argument, supported by the facts, is a growing number of radical trans activists are engaging in deadly violence in pursuit of political and ideological means, and they are targeting people based on being Christian or other perceived anti-trans slights, while frequently targeting children. Left-wing trans ideology, fueled by endless false information escalating fear, anger, and hatred, gives mentally unstable people the moral justification they need to target innocent people. While simply being trans is not an indication of being a threat, trans ideology clearly is. Pretending otherwise to protect a political narrative or identity group will not make anyone safer, including trans people themselves. The facts are clear, more trans-identifying people have murdered others in politically motivated or bias-related crimes than trans-identifying people have been murdered in hate crimes since 2015. If 16 hate crimes towards transgender people justify national outrage and a moral panic from our elected leaders and activists, then numbers reaching beyond 25 victims by trans-identifying people based on political or hate-related motivation should be far, far more concerning.
