Congratulations to Donald J. Trump, our 45th and 47th President of the United States. Further congrats to the GOP for retaking control of both houses of Congress.
Now there are no excuses for not fulfilling Trump's promises.
The filibuster. It cant stop foreign policy or drill baby drill, and it cant stop the budget, but it can stop changes in law like the repeal of Obamacare or shutting down the Department of Education. And it will.
So, Trump will apply his foreign policy and get his budgets. He will be able to extend his tax policies but not make them permanent. Hell be able to drill and withdraw from the Paris accords, but not change the environmental laws. Hell be able to deport, but not change the immigration laws. He wont be able to change the gun laws. The laws themselves wont change much because of the filibuster. Their application by the President will.
I would love to see the Dept. of Education abolished...just look at the horrific results of Public Education since the DOE was created in the early 70s. It is both unnecessarily expensive and counter-productive.
I dont disagree, but that would take an act of Congress, and I dont see it passing the Senate. Same thing with the repeal of Obamacare. Trump will get a huge amount of things done, but Obamacare repeal and killing the DOE requires 60 seats in the Senate, and wont happen. Had dinner last night with a houseful of Connecticut Democrats. We didnt talk about the election at all. But there were a couple of dark jokes. The host was saying at one point something about folks not drinking and driving, then he paused for a beat and said, but Trump got elected, so thats ok now?
Vivek was on Tucker's X.com broadcast and he was talking about ongoing lawsuits challenging the Constitutionality of unelected, unaccountable Federal bureaucRATZ making and executing laws. The SCOTUS has already signalled a willingness to support such an argument. We'll see, but it looks like Trump and his cohorts are going to use his Mandate to achieve lasting, transformational change.
