An illegal alien from Honduras who was deported by the Trump administration is facing a slew of charges following a head-on collision that claimed the life of a nurse who worked at Arkansas Childrens Hospital.
The horrifying wreck unfolded at around 5:45 a.m. on September 8 in Little Rock.
A Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by the suspect veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a Honda CRV driven by Jennifer Ann Morton, 48.
Morton was killed in the crash.
Authorities found the suspect walking away from the scene and transported him to a local hospital for treatment before he was taken into custody.
Maynor Yair Sorto-Herrera, 30, was booked into Pulaski County Detention Center on a variety of charges, including Negligent Homicide, Battery, DUI, Violation of the Concealed Weapons Act, Reckless Driving, Driving without a License, Failure to Stop After Accident with Death.
In October 2018, Herrera was apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol near Laredo, Texas. He was removed from the United States and transported back to Honduras on November 5, 2018. It is unclear when he returned to the United States. Herrera is being held for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Arkansas Department of Public Safety announced in a press release.

Illegal Alien Crimes (@ImmigrantCrimes) September 16, 2024 Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a statement on the tragedy, saying, I am devastated for the loss of nurse Jennifer Ann Morton. Our state will feel the loss of this womans life and sends its prayers and sympathies to her entire family.
We will use every tool available to prosecute the illegal immigrant who caused this senseless death, but lets be clear: he never should have been in this country to begin with. President Biden and Vice President Harris opened our borders wide. Its time for the federal government to step up, close the border, and end the mayhem in our communities.
Morton, a Little Rock native, had a passion for taking care of children and worked as a respiratory therapist at Arkansas Childrens Hospital for 24 years, according to her obituary.
She was a member at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church and attended ladies bible study at East Union Missionary Baptist Church, as well. She was a loving daughter, sister and aunt. She loved to spoil her nephews and made sure they always had exactly what they asked for.
Sorto-Herrera was arraigned on Sept. 10 and ordered held on $150,000 surety bond.
An investigation and legal proceedings are ongoing.
