I am calling for us to remain in peace, while spending money, generated by our peacetime economy, to arm the Ukrainians to fight THEIR war against Russia and destroy the Russians. We don't have to go to war to accomplish that. They'll do the fighting - have to, to keep their country. Russia has already bitten off more than they can chew. They know that they would be plowed under if they attacked NATO, and would only be able to stop being conquered by committing suicide with nuclear weapons if they started it. So, I'm for peace for us, war for the Russians, because the Russians chose war, therefore, I say give them their fill of it! Well, I'd just as soon not send them any more military aid than we already do. They are so ridiculously overpowered versus Hamas that it isn't funny. American financial support for Israel's war is not a matter of real defense, it's a matter of political pandering to the pro- Israel crowd in the US in an election year. I'd just as soon save that money, or send it to Ukraine. Israel can't lose on the battlefield. What they're doing guarantees they won't win and have peace either. There can't be any peace in a land where everybody is a religious fanatic of one stripe or another, and nobody will give an inch because "God says!" No, he doesn't. And SINCE God isn't going to intervene on either side, they're just going to grind on forever, killing each other until Kingdom Come. I'm not interested in it, and don't want to spend any MORE money on it than we already do. We NEED Ukraine to win; it is good for us and our allies. Israel is going to win anyway, so save then money. Of course, the Democrats will just spend that money on illegal aliens, but at least that puts the money back in the US economy. To: Mudboy Slim (#9) Sure, IF Iran attacks, we need to punch. But the Houthis, 1000 miles from Iran, being idiots and hosing off missiles at ships - and missing because they're SUCH primitives? That's not "Iran" any more than Israel is America. Sure, the Iranians fund some of it. They're a nasty bunch. But no way could I agree to attack Iran because of what some tribe in Yemen does, or the Palestinians do in Israel. The only effective attack we could do in Iran (I assume we will not muster a 2 million man army to invade and occupy it), would be to blow up their oil facilities on Kharg Island. Yes, we could do that, but at the cost of a huge spike on oil prices and economic disaster for our allies. So, if Iran directly attacks us, yeah, we have to retaliate. But when they don't (and they're not stupid, they won't), then there's really nothing to be done but smash ants. We can't do ourselves any good by half-assedly striking Iran, it will make or lives worse, and we're never going to muster an army to INVADE Iran. Iran is just one of those things we are going to have to grit our teeth over forever. We don't want the self-inflicted disaster. You're not helping our children by turning on the world when right now most of the world is on your side. This lets us travel and trade everywhere, and has created a huge zone for democracy. Implode that, and you'll end up soon enough being where we would have been had Germany and Japan been allowed to just win World War II. In that world, you think they wouldn't interfere in our hemisphere? Sure, if we submitted to them. Want to do that, submit to other nations? No? Well then you have to pay for alliances and securities, and yeah, that DOES burden your society with costs. There's no such thing as a free lunch. The Latinos don't like us, but presently, we're the only game in town. If Europe and Asia are united by aggressive powers against the US, you can bet your sweet bippy they will reach out to Latin America, and Latin America, with no reason to love us due to history, will turn to them. And then we will face our adversaries HERE, in "our" hemisphere. It's not REALLY our hemisphere. There's no way out of the box, and people won't just leave you alone. We don't face war stress here BECAUSE we have allies. Piss that away because of short-sighted and stupid isolationism, and you end up back where we were in 1941.
