One of two things will happen: the West will continue to arm the Ukraine. Joe Biden will be re-elected and the war will go on, and on, and on. If he dies in office, Kamala Harris will take over and continue the war. Five more years of war, and Russia will collapse.
OR Donald Trump will win the office, and he'll offer you and the Ukrainians a deal: the war ends, now, you get to keep the Donbass and Crimea, and Ukraine joins NATO.
So, either Ukraine wins and Russia collapses, under Biden and his Democrat successor, OR you get your moral victory (you get to keep some territory), but Ukraine joins NATO and you never have the slightest hope of getting another inch.
Either way, you lose.
You will, therefore, continue to fight through the US elections. And then you will either have to keep fighting until Russia is ground to powder, OR you can stop fighting but Ukraine is in NATO and can never be touched again.
It's not really your call. We know you can't pull out: you are overcommitted, and if you just pulled out it would be a clear loss and you would fall. So instead you face defeat at the Democrats' hands, or moral victory but a NATO Ukraine - the sum of all of your fears - at Trump's.
Since Trump seems more likely to win right now, that's the likely outcome.
