Vic you have said you don't believe the whole Bible is Gods word.
I would challenge you to watch this entire video and tell me what you think. I know it is long but it may be the most important video I've ever posted.
The odds of all of these things that that this gentleman has found in the Bible is astronomical. There is no explanation but it is Gods true word.
of course i would like your comment. I dont always agree with you but if you give your honest take that's your opinion. My honest hooe is that it will.cause you to have complete faith in the Bible and know you can trust it. In my opinion you are smart dude who lets his smarts blind him sometimes. If that makes sense.
I've watched half of it. It's slow going. This guy clearly believes in what he's saying. I gather that you also believe this, given what you've said in the past about the KJV.
I will watch to the end.
I do have a question for you: roughly how old are you? 40s? 50s? 60s? 70s?
We are about the same age, I think. And at this age, we have pretty clear ideas of how the world is structured, including the "otherword", the afterlife, what happens when we die, all of that.
And we each believe different things, and we believe them because we believe them. I see the logic that the fellow uses regarding the KJV, that all of these numerical correspondences "CAN'T be a coincidence", and I am reminded of the way I think regarding the forensics of the Shroud of Turin - the presence of pollen from species endemic only to Judea, and the Antioch region, and Constantinople, and Southern France/Northern Italy.
Now, I know when I look at this evidence, and when he looks at his evidence, and very probably when you look at his, I, you and he probably think "There is just no way this is all a coincidence."
And yet our respective areas of focus don't "fit" with the narrative of the other.
So, I'll hear him out, and what he says is interesting. I'm not going to try quibble with it. There's no "gotcha" if he gets a thing or two wrong, in my book. I know that this is a bit non-reciprocal- there is a strain of thinking that says "If one itty-bitty bit is wrong, it's all wrong!" Ok, but then when an inconsistency is pointed out, this never (ever) results in the other person's world view collapsing. It turns into wild speculation "Maybe THIS is the truth instead!" and devolves into name- calling "Because YOU don't accept this argument, YOU are deficient and evil."
To me, of course, that ends the discussion. My interlocutor has gone off into the la-la land of faith, where anything is possible if someone believes hard enough. That is certainly not the shape of my mind or heart.
We aren't there. And as I say, I haven't finished him yet, so I will listen on. There are a bunch of things he has said that, if I the time and and a staff, I would corroborate. I don't, so I am allowing these things to be possible as I listen.
Shroud of Turin - the presence of pollen from species endemic only to Judea,
There is new knowledge to me. I never knew what you mentioned above.
I never dismissed the Shroud of Turin.
My view is that it might be true and it might not be true. I'm not sure. Therefore I won't hang my hat on it as a must be true. If it is it is and that would be kool, if it isn't it isn't and will not change my faith
Here are the things about the Shroud that are particularly notable to me.
The companion Oviedo Cloth - the face-cloth - is made from the same lweave of linen, it has the same blood type (the rarest, Type AB, the universal receiver), with the same distressed quality (bilirubin in it, keeping it red), and the same lymph, and pollen from Jerusalem and Antioch, but not Constantinople. It S known provenance was from Antioch to Spain in the 600s.
The Shroud also went to Constantinople for centuries, and has pollen from there in it.
The image is formed by a Maillard Reaction - it is burnt onto the very surface of the threads. A nuclear reaction is the only explanation that works but HOW? Thats the miracle.
The eyes have coins on them, which are leptons from Pontius Pilates reign.
The burial cloths of Jesus are one of the very few things mentioned in all four gospels, and in the Gnostic gospel of Thomas Didymus as well.
When one reads Johns Gospel, there is a veiled reference to the effect that finding the Shroud had on John. It says that John ran ahead of Peter and got to the tomb first. Looking inside he saw the burial cloth, and the facecloth folded and lying separately. But John stayed outside of the empty tomb. Peter entered. John entered afterwards. And THEN the text says And he saw. And he believed.
Saw WHAT? When he was a few feet away, he already saw the empty tomb. The only thing different standing in the rocky grotto and a few feet away outside the door was being able to see what was ON the burial cloth. I think John saw the burial cloth, and then he believed. Imagine finding THAT cloth under those circumstances.
The carbon dating dated a medieval patch on the edge, not the image itself.
