Dish Network closing Pittsburgh-area call center The Associated Press Updated: 03/05/2010 12:07:37 PM EST MCKEESPORT, Pa.—Satellite TV provider Dish Network is closing a customer service call center near Pittsburgh, idling 600 workers. Dish Network says the center in McKeesport will close at the end of business Friday. McKeesport is about 15 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The company based in Englewood, Colo. has said the McKeesport site doesn't meet the company's "business needs." Dish Network says it isn't closing any other call centers in the country. The call center opened in 1998 and was a major employer in this city of about 20,000 that housed United State Steel Corp.'s National Tube Works until 1987. At its peak, the tube plant employed about 8,000 people.

Find any post in which I have not characterized the economy thusly: "Recovering but it remains to be seen if the recovery will be sustained. I have my doubts and I would not be surprised to see another turn to the downside or a double dip." Businesses fail all of the time even when economies are running well. What is Boofer going to do, well, not Boofer but the people who actually work, when someone develops a national datatase in which an HR department can do an instant background check on prospective employees? He's going to be SOL and it won't matter what the economy is doing...

Not surprising. Dish Network is going to lay them all off before long. They now have an agreement to allow at least one telephone company to do their billing and collections for them,and once the customer agrees to this they can no longer even log in to the Dish Network web page to even change programming or cancel their account. You now have to go to the telephone company web page to do either. What kind of company that plans on staying in business does something like this? I may be changing over to Direct tv in a few days because of this,but I doubt they are any better. I just get basically the same programming for half the price for a year if I switch.
