Universities are considering adversity scores to dodge a recent ruling from the Supreme Court which blocked the use of race-based admissions policies, according to the New York Times. The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Harvard University and the University of North Carolinas use of affirmative action admissions policies were unconstitutional. Recently, at least 20 higher education institutions have requested more information on the University of California (UC) Davis School of Medicines socioeconomic disadvantage scale, or S.E.D., which considers a students socioeconomic background, such as their parents income and whether they come from an underserved area, in addition to academics, according to the NYT.
