Nellis Air Force Base was placed on lockdown this afternoon and nearby streets were closed, authorities said. Base spokesman Eugene Hill said the main gate was closed and the base was put on lockdown about 3 p.m. He said Metro Police are assisting, but it is unknown what caused the lockdown.
Metro spokesman Bill Cassell said officers are assisting with traffic control in the area. He said North Las Vegas Boulevard near East Craig Road has been shut down.
Traffic is being rerouted and drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.
