Base spokesman Eugene Hill said the main gate was closed and the base was put on lockdown about 3 p.m. He said Metro Police are assisting, but it is unknown what caused the lockdown. Metro spokesman Bill Cassell said officers are assisting with traffic control in the area. He said North Las Vegas Boulevard near East Craig Road has been shut down. Metro Police Lt. Dan McGrath said the man was taken into custody about 3:30 p.m. after pulling up to the main gate and making bomb threats. He said officers searched the man’s car but did not find any explosives. Nellis spokesman Eugene Hill said the main gate to the base was shut down at about 3 p.m. as a result of the incident. The gate will remain closed until officials finish their investigation, authorities said. The incident did not impact operations at the base, Air Force officials said. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is taking over the investigation, McGrath said. No further information was immediately released about the man taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing and officials were still at the scene Friday night.
