Here’s a BIG Difference Between Bush and Obama Policy 2010 March 3 by David Forsmark

Under Obama foreign policy, this guy would be still doing this to other people.

Ryan Mauro replied to my post that it does matter whether Republicans and Democrats are in charge of foreign policy with this fair point:

David Forsmark replied to my post about the George W. Obama Administration here, titled “Yes, Ryan, There IS a Difference Between the 2 Parties on National Security.” Just a little clarification: I was comparing the Obama and Bush Administrations, not necessarily both parties, and I didn’t say there was no difference at all, just nothing really decisive in my opinion.

Well, I’d say Saddam could point out one decisive difference for you, Ryan.

And, as you yourself point out, the “surge” would not have happened under Obama and Iraq would be well on its way to slipping back into tyranny.

Moreover, giving Obama credit that CIA interrogators are not being prosecuted, that KSM is not being tried in New York, or that the Patriot Act was renewed thanks to public pressure (and great work by Congressmen Pete Hoekstra and Peter King holding their feet to the public fire) is like giving the Clintons credit that Hillarycare did not become reality.

Yes, Obama has sometimes bowed to reality, particularly in foreign policy. But every instinct of this Administration has initially taken it in the opposite direction until it had to be dragged kicking and screaming to a politically defensible position.

The fact that this has not led to a major disaster yet, is just good fortune. I would rather not have to bet on it continuing. (1 image)

Saddam was tried and executed under existing Iraqi law...or so we were told...

Is that no longer the case?

Bush gave them the opportunity to try Saddam.

That never would have happened under Mr. "57 States."

Bullshit anti-war rhetoric. The success in Iraq will reshape the region. Even Mandingo and Gaffe Biden can't resist jumping on the bandwagon.

A false assumption about intentions in Iraq.

We've buit permanent structures there to house US troops perpetually. We also hold their hands and tell them "There there..screw the elections...we'll make sure everything stays okay..." everytime they are supposed to have one...

IF killing Saddam was the goal as well as transferring US tax dollars to various Boy Blunder/Big Dick's cronies then the invasion was a success. By any real measure of success it's an abject failure...

And we haven't established empires.

Germany and Japan was a DECLARED war. There was a surrender involved.

Korea was a "police" action. Last I checked, there's still a North Korea. And we still have troops on the Korean peninsula - almost 60 years later.

That doesn't have the trappings of an empire?

BS. Iraq will degenerate into a black hole.

It's all part of the staging. We now have some control over two widely separated but strategically placed countries. The big country in the middle is the only logical choice to be the next area of interest. The area is also on some ancient maps as part of a large homeland for some "chosen" people.

No. All of humankind's problems begin with Bush and end with Bush.

Bush was too stupid to tie his shoes, but he was smart enough to create a hurricane to destroy New Orleans.

Bush spent too much money, but he didn't spend enough.

All the world hated us when Bush was prez, but they all love us now.

Bush's wars are evil, but Obama's are good.

Running up a trillion dollar debt was bad when Bush did it, but running up a multi-trillion dollar debt is good when Obama does it.

Wiretapping is bad when Bush does it, but it is good when Obama does it.

That's all for today. Class will resume this time tomorrow. For your homework, face Washington DC and say five "Hail Obamas."

When did the USSR attack China or Iran or North Korea? The biggest lie of the 20th century is found in the fact that Soviet hegemony in the Eastern Bloc was a Post WWII phenomenom.

Serbia started WWI...who was its staunchest ally?

Being a Republican means you get to choose your own reality.

Bush's wars are evil, but Obama's are good.

I challenge you to point out a) where Obama has even started a war let alone b) cite anyone here who has proclaimed it good...

Running up a trillion dollar debt was bad when Bush did it, but running up a multi-trillion dollar debt is good when Obama does it.

The majority of debt that has been run up is a direct result of the failures of Obama's predecessor. You cannot spin your way out of that in any way...

The big country in the middle is the only logical choice to be the next area of interest.

That would be a bad move on our part at the present time. The younger generation of Iranians are revolting. They have no love for Ahmadinejad or the religious leaders. An attack on Iran would turn them against us with disasterous results. Iran is approxiamtely 3 times the size of Iraq, and we were never able to quell the violence in that country.

Nothing to indicate that will be the result. In fact, the indicators show the exact opposite.

Iraq is "balkanized", but unlike the previous failed experiment in nation building, Iraqi's aren't going to stop killing each other any time soon. There are way too many internal divisions and they lack an iron-handed leader to hold the country together.

Democracy Could Transform Middle East, Says Bush

Democracy could bring a new future to the Middle East by undermining extremism and giving voice to millions of families across the region yearning for justice and tolerance, freedom and hope, says President Bush.

“These values are the self-evident right of all people, of all religions, in all of the world,” Bush said in a May 15 speech to Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, as the country celebrates the 60th anniversary of its founding.

Since independence, Israel has built a thriving democracy with a dynamic economy and open society, all the while under continuous threat from the forces of extremism, Bush said. A new generation of regional leaders must defy extremists by making the hard choices necessary for peace, rooted in democratic values. “We must stand with the reformers working to break the old patterns of tyranny and despair. We must give voice to the millions of ordinary people who dream of a better life in freedom.”

“Leaders who are accountable to their people will not pursue endless confrontation and bloodshed. Young people with a place in their society and a voice in their future are less likely to search for meaning in radicalism. And societies where citizens can express their conscience and worship their God will not export violence, they will be partners for peace,” Bush said.

Democratic values have shaped Israel’s “unbreakable” alliance with the United States, Bush said. Democracies such as the United States and Israel counter the darker visions offered by the terrorists groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah and al-Qaida.

“These killers claim the mantle of Islam, but they are not religious men. No one who prays to the God of Abraham could strap a suicide vest to an innocent child,” Bush said. “In truth, the men who carry out these savage acts serve no higher goal than their own desire for power. They accept no God before themselves.”

As a leading sponsor of terrorism, Iran also must be prevented from acquiring nuclear weapons, Bush said. “[Israeli] Jews and Americans have seen the consequences of disregarding the words of leaders who espouse hatred. And that is a mistake the world must not repeat in the 21st century.”

By standing behind democratic reforms in the region and steadfastly defending its freedoms, Israel could celebrate its 120th anniversary beside a free and prosperous Palestinian state and a region transformed, Bush predicted.

“From Cairo and Riyadh to Baghdad and Beirut, people will live in free and independent societies, where a desire for peace is reinforced by ties of diplomacy, tourism, and trade. Iran and Syria will be peaceful nations, where today’s oppression is a distant memory and people are free to speak their minds and develop their talents,” he said.

“I truly believe that if we stay firm in our resolve, resist the temptation to give in to the terrorists, and believe in the transformative capacity of liberty, someday other nations in the region will share the blessings of democracy and liberty,” Bush said in an address later in the evening at Jerusalem’s Israel Museum. “Someday, they'll know that they'll have governments that respond to the people. They'll build schools instead of bombs. They'll not want a war with their neighbors -- but want to live in peace. And that's the dream, and that's the hope. And I firmly believe it can come true.”

Bush urged critics to consider how democracy has shaped today’s Israel, as well as transformed other regions of the world in the past 60 years.

“When Europe was destroying itself through total war and genocide, it was difficult to envision a continent that six decades later would be free and at peace. When Japanese pilots were flying suicide missions into American battleships, it seemed impossible that six decades later Japan would be a democracy, a lynchpin of security in [East] Asia, and one of America’s closest friends.”

“This fundamental insight, that freedom yields peace, is the great lesson of the 20th century. Now our task is to apply it in the 21st,” Bush said.

You asked how someone who is stupid could also be evil as if they are mutually exclusive...they aren't. That was my answer.

I wasn't clear in my question. No, it is not impossible for someone to be evil AND stupid. Of course not.

But when I included "diabolically evil" in my question, it implied an intelligence. After all, it takes talent and an intelligence to screw things up as much as you say that Bush did. Isn't he "the worst president ever" according to you?

war, I'm telling you this not necessarily as a friend, but as someone who hates to see someone who is intelligent (as I believe you are) morph into someone who is mad.

You have lost all perspective. I don't know your situation, or how it is that you are able to post as much as you do. But seriously - your fixations (on Bush, on anonymous posters like Badeye and packrat) are not healthy. I'm serious in this.

And you can take it for what you will.

All the best.

You have lost all perspective.

Au contraire...my perspective is dead on balls.

We got here through a good 6 years of absolutely disastrous fiscal policy that began with the tex cuts and continued along with the off budget financing of the WOT.

The last two years, he could have stepped up to the plate...got the proper regulatory agencies involved in the financial system. The biggest lie being told is that there were no safeguards. That's wrong. I sit through 4 compliance meetings a year. When I was a banker, I sat through more. This financial mess was caused by a failure at the US Treasury...the Comptroller and the FRB. All of these bodies had and still have the regulatory authority to reign in leverage.

BY 2008, the market was a joke...you had guys making LEVERAGED bets on LEVERAGED businesses that had LEVERAGED holdings of LEVERAGED paper that was backed by LEVERAGED assets. I had been warning about these excesses for years dude and got literally laughed at by the IMSR's and Boofers at LP. I was called a Doom and Gloomer. Hell, a month before the official start of the recession you had bots like Domer STILL ridiculing my prediction that we were months away from a total collapse of the financiall system/

As for Boofer, he's a human pinata who deserves to be whacked and whacked hard at his every turn. HE can't take losing and I will continue to rub his nose in it for as long as he cares to show up.

This is your buddy Boofer and why I will always remind him as to what a piece of shit he is:

Goldi,

The next time this poster mentions my legal name, in any respect, on this website, I will post his entire background.

Full name. Full address. Mother and Father's legal name. His curious 'civil court' record. Phone number, ISP, email.

All of it.

I've noted the last couple of times he's done this, you've taken no action.

No problem, I've been 'outted' as you know.

But just as I dealt with that idiot malador, I'll do the same with this punk.

Your call, Goldi. I'd rather you put a stop to it, but since you are in ignore mode on this one...no problem.

I'll wait 24 hours for you to see this, before nuking him.
