Freddie Mac: "Potential Large Wave of Foreclosures"

by CalculatedRisk on 2/24/2010 11:55:00 AM

"We start 2010 with some early signs of stabilization in the housing market, with house prices and home sales likely nearing the bottom sometime in 2010. We expect that low mortgage rates, relatively high affordability and the homebuyer tax credit will help continue to fuel the recovery. Still, the housing recovery remains fragile, with significant downside risk posed by high unemployment and a potential large wave of foreclosures." Freddie Mac Chief Executive Officer Charles E. Haldeman, Jr.

The quote is from the Freddie Mac Q4 earnings release:

Freddie Mac Releases Fourth Quarter and Full-Year 2009 Financial Results Fourth quarter 2009 net loss was $6.5 billion. After the dividend payment of $1.3 billion to the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury) on the senior preferred stock, net loss attributable to common stockholders was $7.8 billion ... for the fourth quarter of 2009. ... Full-year 2009 net loss was $21.6 billion. After dividend payments of $4.1 billion during the year to Treasury on the senior preferred stock, net loss attributable to common stockholders was $25.7 billion ... for the full-year 2009.

Another $7.8 billion in losses ...

There wasn't even one completed recount.

Does that narrow it down?

Ohio Recount Ends, Kerry 285 Closer

Election officials finished the presidential recount in Ohio on Tuesday, with the final tally shaving about 300 votes off President Bush’s six-figure margin of victory in the state that gave him a second term. The recount shows Bush winning Ohio by 118,457 votes over John Kerry, according to unofficial results provided to The Associated Press by the 88 counties. Lucas County, home to Toledo, was the last to finish counting. The state had earlier declared Bush the winner by 118,775 votes and plans to adjust its totals to reflect the recount later this week.

The Kerry campaign supported the recount, but said it did not expect the tally to change the election winner. Supporters of the recount, requested by two minor party candidates, said they wanted to make sure every valid vote was counted.

A review of the available data reveals that in Ohio alone, at least 357,000 voters, the overwhelming majority of them Democratic, were prevented from casting ballots or did not have their votes counted in 200412 — more than enough to shift the results of an election decided by 118,601 votes13. (See Ohio's Missing Votes)

In what may be the single most astounding fact from the election, one in every four Ohio citizens who registered to vote in 2004 showed up at the polls only to discover that they were not listed on the rolls, thanks to GOP efforts to stem the unprecedented flood of Democrats eager to cast ballots14. And that doesn't even take into account the troubling evidence of outright fraud, which indicates that upwards of 80,000 votes for Kerry were counted instead for Bush. That alone is a swing of more than 160,000 votes — enough to have put John Kerry in the White House15.

Laugh all that you want to and it's about all that you'll be able to do. You won't be able to show that Ohio a) ever recounted all of its votes as they were required ot do under law and b) that the results that it did report were in any way supported by the actual vote.

If you want to believe Bush stole Ohio, you should also beleive Kerry stole PA, so it all comes out a wash:

Philadelphia Vote:

From CNN:

Kerry 517,054 80%

Bush 124,710 20%

Total Philly votes cast: 643,463

So Kerry got 4.14 votes for every 1 Bush vote in Philly (an absolutely astounding number - even heavily democratic Broward Country, Fl only went for Kerry 2:1 and heavily democratic Cook County, IL went for Kerry 2.5:1)

------------------------------------------

Philadelphia Voting Population:

From the US Census Bureau:

Population, 2003 estimate 1,479,339

Population, percent change, April 1, 2000 to July 1, 2003 -2.5%

Population, 2000 1,517,550

Population, percent change, 1990 to 2000 -4.3%

Persons under 5 years old, percent, 2000 6.5%

Persons under 18 years old, percent, 2000 25.3%

Persons 65 years old and over, percent, 2000 14.1%

Female persons, percent, 2000 53.5%

Total age eligible aged persons in Philly : Overall Philly population (1,479,339) - those under 18 (25.3% of 1,479,339) = 1,105,066*

Does not exclude those not eligible to vote by other factors (immigrants, felons, etc.)

------------------------------------------

Philadelphia Registered Voters:

Total number of people registered to vote in Philly 2001 - 1,011,149

Total number of people registered to vote in Philly 2004 - 1,035,395

------------------------------------------

Some conclusions:

1. Even as Philadelphia looses population, the number of registered voters continues to increase

2. Nearly every person of voting age is registered to vote (as compared to a national average of 50% by the Census Bureau )

3 The total lopsidedness of the vote is an astounding number to believe

4. Either Philadelphia has the most engaged and civic population in the WORLD, or there is massive fraud.

5. The amount of fraud easily exceeds the margin of loss of President Bush. If Bush had won Pennsylvania, it would have been a landslide.

The Ohio recount wasn’t random or comprehensive and may have involved serious illegalities. Under Ohio law, 3 percent of the ballots in a precinct are examined by hand. If the numbers match what was counted on Election Day, then the rest of the ballots are compiled electronically. In many districts, Republican Secretary of State Blackwell chose the precincts to be counted in a partisan manner, weighing the choices toward precincts where there were no disputes while avoiding those being contested. Moreover, there have been numerous confirmed instances where employees of the private companies that manufactured the voting machines had access to the machines and the computer records before the recount occurred. In at least two counties, technicians from Diebold and Triad dismantled key parts of voting machines before they could be subjected to audits for recount. In some counties, vendor companies conducted the recount – not public election officials. At least one county---Shelby---has admitted to discarding key data before the recount could be taken.

In Greene County unrecounted ballots were left unguarded in an unlocked building, rendering the recount moot.
